We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tina Obeid. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tina below.
Tina, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Hairstyling dates back starting from my gray uncle who was a Barber and it trickled down to me and has been my passion ever since!
Hardwork is literally in my DNA. I come from a longline of self-made Entrepreneurs. I was taught very early on by my gray grandfather how to work and have my own income in my own way. Coming from a family of six siblings was a great motivation to want to be the best and do my best! We all had talent and creativity in many different ways. Becoming a Hairstylist became my talent!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As a professional Hairstylist I have the greatest gift there is which is making people look and feel great! I absolutely love the transformation of styling hair from Updos to braids or simply enhancing your natural hair with curls or twists. My job is very fulfilling and rewarding!
In my career I’ve had the pleasure of working with other amazing Hairstylists and Barbers and stand alongside them on stage. I recently participated in the Bronner Brothers Hair Show in New Orleans, it was a wonderful experience and opportunity! There were so many beautiful hair designs that walked the stage!
I’m always in awe of what we can do with hair. I like to look at hair as art and the client as the masterpiece done by an artist! There are just so many things we can portray through hairstyling
I’m actually working on something different in hair to showcase cool techniques in Natural hair which is my specialty. I’m super happy about it! Right now it’s in the works and will be coming out soon with more info regarding this new adventure.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In my journey of becoming a Hairstylist I learned that consistency is a priority. You have to be constant to further you skill set. Also, I learned to stay in the know of what’s current in hair because hairstyles are always changing. Lastly, I would say put your own stamp on your styling techniques. Everyone has their own unique flair that makes what they do just a little different. This is how you brand yourself and set yourself apart in such a busy industry.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My mother was very instrumental in motivating me to go for whatever it was I set my mind to do. She was very encouraging and supportive which helped me later in life to chase my dreams even when it seems impossible. I will forever be grateful for having such a mom that just wanted her kids to shine and live life to the fullest!
