Meet Tony B

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tony B. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Tony, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
Being the only one in the room sometimes can feel odd. At the same time God placed me inside of these rooms so I can create a change in the world. To maneuver through that even requires listening and not speaking at times. It also requires knowing when to speak. Being too quiet won’t always get those ideas out.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Born in Dallas,TX I have been able to use my creativity and create an impact in both the corporate world and the music scene. As a professional art director and brand creative, I have been able to breathe new life into renowned brands such as Scottish Rite, Crazy Water, and TedX.

Beyond the boardroom, I have carved out a niche in the music industry, capturing the hearts of fans with captivating cover art and soulful hits crafted from the comfort of my home studio. My journey from apprentice to Art Directing on the Dr. Phil Show is only but a testament to what God has provided.

In the past year alone, I have taken the stage alongside other artist like Ken Laflaire, touring with Druski, and captivating audiences at SXSW. I wanted to further my creative footprint, so I began collaborations with Skybox Studios to open new doors for artistic exploration.

Despite my success in music, I recently have made the decision to temporarily step back from the spotlight, prioritizing my growth as an Art Director. Fans can still expect exclusive merchandise releases and an eagerly awaited EP slated for later this year. Taking this hiatus from music allows me to have the space to dive deeper into my artistry and continue pushing the boundaries of creativity. Rest assured, the best is yet to come.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflection, dedication, and forward-thinking are crucial. I find it imperative to allow these attributes to mature within me, understanding that every event unfolds with purpose. Belief in one’s ability to effect change is fundamental. No one else will assume the responsibility of placing you in a position and anticipate the work not being done. In my early experiences, I recognized the importance of continual learning and examination of the impact I make through each opportunity presented.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
I initiated contact with fellow creatives and strategically mapped out various projects I envisioned on Instagram. Through this, I came to the realization that while I had established a musical niche for myself, I was also gaining recognition as an emerging artist within the industry. Recognizing the importance of self-promotion, I chose to set aside humility and share my narrative. Our voices possess an immense influence, and I’ve witnessed firsthand how my words and vision have catalyzed change in my hometown and beyond. Along the way, I’ve learned the value of self-forgiveness and continued to expand my network within the creative community. Looking back, my most significant area of growth undoubtedly lies in rediscovering belief in myself. Consider me reinvigorated and ready to tackle whatever lies ahead.
