We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Travis Reigh. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Travis below.
Hi Travis, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Truth be told I can always think of my mother and find the answer quickly every time to that question. When I figured out performing and releasing music for a living was what I was chosen to do was when I was very young and my mother and brother went overseas after 9/11. I spent 6 months to a year without my family and started writing and playing instruments. I just knew in that moment that was my peace and happiness.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My story started many years ago when my family went overseas. When my family returned I also learned that my grand parents Art and Ellen Hall also performed country music and were quite successful. It was always my dream to release my own music, and tour all over the world. I am chasing my dreams and I couldn’t be happier with the work myself and my bandmates have put in. It takes a lot of work like any job. If you want to be CEO you have to give it everything. Currently I am focused on getting more of my music out for my listeners and performing shows. I just finished a new song called “Laymantown Road” about a street I grew up down the road from with a lot of memories that I hope listeners can relate to. My audience can expect to hear the song in mid to late February of this year.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I say three of the strongest qualities you can bring to a career in music just like any business is hard work, dedication, and drive. It takes a lot more than just those qualities but they are probably the most important. Luckily myself and my bandmates have always worked on how we can bring a better show, better written songs, showing up like we are supposed to (sick or hurt), and having a drive that keeps us going. This is everything I want. My advice to others trying to do the same thing is focus on those aspects, entertain, and focus on the writing.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Honestly I’d say patience. That’s a very hard concept to learn in your daily life for anyone but it has helped so much in a lot of situations. You read stories of businesses and musicians getting where they want over night and that’s just not the case. Putting in the work is one thing but patience is something you must have. In the end it helps a lot to just be patient and have faith that things will work out. If you can get patience you can overcome just about any challenge faced your way.
