We were lucky to catch up with Traylesia Kirkland recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Traylesia with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I can proudly say I get my work ethic from my family. I witnessed my mom as a single parent raise my brother and I and my 2 cousins all while working and going to school. I watch my dad turn $5 dollars into thousands as a hard working business man while taking no for an answer when dealing with this customers. Also when I was a young I would go to my granddad’s hotel “Shakir Economy Motel”watching him working everyday and all night. As a Young child I knew I wanted to work hard, do good and be great.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Traylesia Kirkland and I go by Tray. I have 2 boys, Ages 10 years old and 19 months. I’ve also been married for 3 years to my husband who is also an entrepreneur and successful business owner. I’ve been a beauty professional a little over 3 years now. Sometimes it’s crazy to look back and think about how I stepped out on faith by going to beauty school during Covid and starting my business while covid was ending. When I first started iBeauty Cave I was still working my corporate job, however as of 1 year ago I put in my 2 week notice at my corporate job and now a full time entrepreneur running iBeauty Cave. As a beauty professional my main goal is to educate women on the importance of self- care while making them feel beautiful through the lash services I offer. From a very young age I always knew that I wanted to run my own business but I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do or how I was going to go about doing so. I discovered lash extensions after getting them myself for my wedding.I instantly felt in love with the process and knew that lashes was something I wanted to do. Fun fact about me is that I was actually enrolled in college for business administration and decided to change it up and attend beauty school. I didn’t tell anyone my plans and I just went for it. iBeauty Cave was established not only to make women feel beautiful but also to encourage self care and educate women on the lash industry which is still new and up and coming in America . Bringing out my clients natural beauty while in a relaxing, luxurious environment. Here at iBeauty Cave my solang is ” unleashing the beauty in you”. iBeauty cave is doing great so and I’m currently focusing on adding new services such as waxing and brow services. I’m also excited to announce that iBeauty Cave is expanding to a new location and I’m expecting to hire staff to be able to service more women.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on when I first started my journey mindset skills was the most impactful during my journey.
When I learned that everything starts with our mind and thoughts I had to change my prospective about everything I though I know about myself.
This is what helped me:
You have to start someone- When I first started my business I was so concerned with everything being perfect and not having all the things I thought I needed. you’ll never be full ready and things will never be perfect. Work with what you’ve got and take action.
Do things that will make you uncomfortable- you play small when you avoid things that make you uncomfortable. It’s not until you get uncomfortable that you start to evaluate. Take chances, take risks. No matter how you feel.
Mindset is everything. I learned that I really had to change my thought process to not think so negatively and work on self growth and development rather than focus of self doubt. Listening to podcasts, reading books and surround yourself with people that are smarter than you.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The number one challenge I have had to overcame was knowing that everyone isn’t an ideal client and knowing how to market to my ideal client and understand their pain points. its one thing to be good at providing a service but its a whole other thing to know how to get the ideal clients. I currently have a business coach and actively educating myself on different ways to market to my ideal client. It’s not about just making money. It’s about how I can offer value and makes someone else life easier.
