We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Trejon Khalil a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Trejon, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I would say I get my work ethic from my grandfather Noel Khalil. He was a man who not only cared about family, but he cared about providing and protecting his family. In order to do that, he had to go chase the bag! Up until the last few months of his life, even as a semi-retired man, couldn’t stay still. He is the main reason why I work as hard as I do.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am an artist manager, I deal with the overall scope of an artist’s career. From the day to day, to the most long term goals, I’m the one who plans and execute the business goals and agenda of said artist. WTF Music Group is the label I created in late 2019, and we stand on two things, music and integrity. We take every artist’s craft just as seriously as we take ours, so our main goal is to not only put you in the best position for your career, but teach you the ways of the industry so we all can have better clarity of the mission ahead.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I got by (in my opinion) the 3 A’s of handling business as a manager : Be attentive, Be alert, and Be available.
Your artist are like your children in a sense, you must always be aware of what their needs and desires are, while also putting them in the best position to succeed. Always know that things can go wrong and ADAPTING is the greatest skill you can have in this industry.
Take the time to know the world you want to be apart of. Every industry is different, but the guidelines to achieving success is all the same; work smarter not harder, learn about your competition and what they bring to the industry, while also figuring out how to bring your own vibe into the industry, and most importantly, preparation + perfect timing = success! Always be ready for the next stage, you can never be too prepared, but you can be too late.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My parents were ones of high expectations, and in turn, they’ve passed the same feelings to me. Having high expectations gives you opportunity for aspire for more, search beyond the realm of personal growth into a place unseen. My parents always gave me the safe space to want more, to put in the work to achieve what you so desire.
With my high expectations, my parents gave me balance with drive. Expectations are nothing without drive to push it forward. I’m incredibly thankful for what my folks has instilled in me, so I can become the man I see myself becoming.
