We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Trenese McNealy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Trenese below.
Hi Trenese, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
My number one saying is, “Self-care is the best care.” As a working wife and mom, I had to learn to start putting myself first. My focus was always centered around my family, but as I got older and my health started to change, I knew I had to make a change within myself. I not only needed to love my husband and my children, but I also had to love myself. Thus, I would treat myself to lunch, go get my nails and toes done, go get my hair done, go see a movie by myself, go to the spa, binge-watch a television series, and just find ways to relax.
Self-care awareness is a must, and I created a free, downloadable “20 Self-Care Strategies List” to help moms have their alone time and achieve self-care. On February 13, 2021, I also held a Virtual One-Day Summit: Transferring the Love of a Mother Internally. This event featured 12 speakers who discussed various self-care topics from enhancing your wellness, breathing exercises, reconnecting with oneself, and overcoming overwhelm. The playback link to the summit and the strategies list can all be found on my website.
Being a mom is a busy task, but all moms need to take time out for themselves through self-care.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a wife, mom, author, and entrepreneur whose mission is to help moms maintain a healthy, work-life balance to reach their goals, and to provide organizations with consulting services through successful Program and Project Management strategies. I have over 10+ years’ experience in Program, Project, and Grant Management with a Certified Associate in Project Management. My focus derived from my company, Dr. Trenese L. McNealy, LLC., a professional service, management consultation company, established in 2020.
There are so many moms out there who want to achieve their goals and dreams in life but may not believe they can do so because they are a mom. As a mother myself, I create content built with strategies that can help moms push through the everyday struggles by maintaining proper time management to fulfill not only the needs of their children, but their own passion in life.
I create books, e-books, worksheets, guides, webinars, luncheons, summits, and town hall forums. I create content that will help moms awaken the winner within them and power-up their goals. I also create content that will help moms embrace self-care for themselves and allow them to surround themselves with empowering women.
I have been seen on The Connect Show Texas, Black Connections, LLC, Business Talk Library, ShaibabyTV, and WTOC 11 Mid-Morning Live. I have been featured in Women’s Health, The Chicago Journal, New York Weekly, Entertainment Monthly News, New York Wire, US Reporter, ABC Affiliate KAKE.com, and many other publications. In addition, I have been heard on The Legendary KYOK 1140AM/92.3 Gospel Radio Station, the VoyageATL Podcast, and The Joseph Bonner Show Podcast.
I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Fashion Merchandising and Apparel Design with a Minor in Management from Georgia Southern University, a Master of Business Administration degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, and a Doctor of Business Administration degree in Project Management from Walden University.
I was also the CEO of LaShay’s DESIGNS, an online fashion boutique, which I operated for 14-years and closed in 2023. I am the author of Mommy’s Goals vs. Reality: Managing School, Work, and Family, the co-author of the Glambitious Guide to Being a Mompreneur in 2020, and I am currently working on a new book, A Mother’s Struggle to Success.
I am a Riceboro, Georgia native, currently residing in Hampton, Georgia. I am married to Mr. Brian McNealy, and we have three beautiful children: Brielle, Bryce, and Brayden McNealy.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important skills that were most impactful in my journey were my time management skills, my organizational skills, and my project management skills. Having these three skills have allowed me to have a healthy, work-life balance. Having great time management skills has allowed me the opportunity to manage multiple projects at one time. I know how to touch each project for a certain amount of time throughout the day and successfully complete all of my tasks.
Having great organizational skills has kept me focused and on track to accomplish everything I have set forth to do. And, having great project management skills has allowed me to provide the knowledge and expertise I have gained throughout my career to my business and lifestyle.
Developing your skills will take time to achieve through experience. The more experience one has to evolve in life will result in the continued betterment of your skills set.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Growing up, my parents were always loving parents to me and my three siblings. They worked very hard to help us succeed in life, and they were always there for us. The most impactful thing my mom and dad did for me growing up was to always be in attendance to all of my activities and events. Their love and support taught me how to be supportive of others’ achievements.
My parents’ support taught me how to always put family first over work, and to always show up for your children. My siblings and I never had to worry because we knew our parents would be there. Thus, I make sure my children do not have to worry because mommy will always be present at all of their functions.
