Meet Trish Bernard

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Trish Bernard. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Trish below.

Trish, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my parents. Throughout my entire life, my mom has been employed by the sheriff’s department, while my dad worked as a butcher. They dedicated an average of 6 days a week, putting in 10 to 12 hours per day. There was even a time when my dad had two jobs and work daily. Sadly, he passed away. It was during my tenure in corporate America that I had an instant realization: despite their seemingly intense work routines, both of my parents genuinely loved what they did. Inspired by their passion, I made a decision. I committed myself to working harder than ever before, but this time, it would be in support of my own brand, aiding other entrepreneurs who needed respite from the stresses of marketing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I assist brands in implementing straightforward marketing strategies complemented by stunning visuals. If you’re seeking a seamless and all-inclusive approach to your company’s branding, look no further! From inception to completion, I provide ongoing support and utilize efficient tools to minimize time spent on individual projects while maximizing outcomes for each campaign.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, I believe there were three significant qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that had the greatest impact. Firstly, my background in sociology provided me with a deep understanding of people, which proved invaluable in my endeavors. To those starting their journey, I recommend investing time in studying human behavior, psychology, and sociology. This knowledge will enhance your ability to connect with others, understand their needs, and build meaningful relationships.

Secondly, my willingness to be flexible played a crucial role in my success. Embracing adaptability allows you to navigate unexpected challenges and seize new opportunities. Early on, I encourage individuals to cultivate a mindset that embraces change and actively seeks out diverse experiences. This flexibility will help you navigate the dynamic nature of any journey and open doors to personal growth and professional development.

Lastly, I consider my ADHD as a superpower that fueled my journey. While it may present challenges, it also brings unique strengths such as creativity, hyperfocus, and out-of-the-box thinking. My advice to those with ADHD or any perceived disadvantage is to embrace it as a part of their identity and find ways to leverage it to their advantage. Understand your strengths, adapt your work environment to suit your needs, and seek support when necessary. Your unique perspective can lead to innovative ideas and solutions.

The most impactful moment in my journey came when I realized I didn’t have to confine myself to a single business or put myself in a box. Instead, I discovered the possibility of thriving in multiple ventures simultaneously. My advice to those starting out is to challenge traditional notions and explore unconventional paths. Don’t limit yourself to predefined roles or expectations. Embrace your passions and pursue diverse interests, allowing them to complement and enhance each other. Embrace the courage to forge your own path and create a fulfilling journey that aligns with your unique aspirations and talents.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

I’m currently facing the challenge of hiring an in-person marketing assistant for my virtual team. Since COVID-19, it’s been difficult to explain to candidates why remote work isn’t suitable for this role. However, I’ve managed to find temporary solutions by engaging remote subcontractors, interns, and apprentices. While they offer valuable support, I’m eager to establish a more consistent in-person presence, especially for the marketing assistant position.

To overcome this challenge, I’m exploring strategies. Firstly, I’m emphasizing the benefits of in-person collaboration, like improved communication and real-time feedback. I’m highlighting the value of face-to-face interactions and opportunities for professional growth and mentorship.

Additionally, I’m broadening my search channels to target individuals open to office work, such as recent graduates or those seeking hands-on experience. Engaging with local universities, career fairs, and networking events helps me connect with candidates seeking in-person opportunities.

Furthermore, I’m refining job descriptions and interviews to clearly outline the requirements and benefits of the in-person marketing assistant role. By transparently communicating expectations, I hope to attract candidates genuinely interested in working in an office environment.

Though the hiring process is challenging, I remain optimistic that persistence and targeted efforts will lead me to a qualified marketing assistant who can contribute in person, adding value to our collaborative efforts.
