Meet Trisha Nester

We recently connected with Trisha Nester and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Trisha, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I think it comes from growing up in a lower middle class family. If ever I wanted to needed something for school or extracurriculars or even new school clothes it was always a struggle. So I started baby sitting at 13 and basically never stopped working.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the owner and creator of Phoenix and Snow LLC. I make skin products using natural ingredients as well as dabble in candle making. I started this business owning thing about 2 years ago by making and selling sugar scrubs on Facebook marketplace.

Though trial and error I’ve found the recipes that I love but also it has started my journey towards learning the old ways of natural healing. I’ve been farming vegetables on my uncles property on and off for my entire existence. But just recently I’ve started growing my own herbs for their healing attributes. Its really heightened my excitement for extending my business into natural healing products such as my Calendula Salve.
I offer the salve in 2 options regular and menthol. I steep the dried flower in almond oil for a few weeks so the oil has time to absorb all of the benefits of the flower and blend it with organic bees wax to give it a nice viscosity. In my home we use it like a heal-all. Such as Neosporin, bag balm, etc. I am learning everyday from customer feed back for all its uses; Chapped lips, wind whipped skin, eczema, and more! The menthol option gives a nice cooling effect for sun burn and helps to take the itch and sting from bug bites.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Honestly, math. Math is number one. Fractions, decimals, ratios. To be able to master the ingredients and how to properly mix them to make the correct consistency but also for money management which of course, is key in any business.

The want to learn. I love learning. Whether it be from a book, the internet, or a friend I take as much knowledge that I can get and try to use it to my advantage in everyday life as well as my business. A huge factor is also realizing that even though you may think you know it all is being humble enough to admit that you can always learn more.

People skills and customer satisfaction is huge! Being kind even when its hard.

When I first set out on this journey I didn’t have a person to ask about how to do any of it. Looking back I would say that taking a business class or 2 would have been extremally beneficial. My suggestion for getting started is join groups. In person groups or online groups. Ask questions. Don’t just start with the cheapest kit, or item they sell on the internet. Do research aka read about what you’re interested in. Absorb the knowledge.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
I really try to focus on loving yourself from within. I know its hard for a lot of people to spoil themselves or even do the minimal of a shower some days. I want to make products that are fun yet beneficial for the skin. I think back to being a kid playing with moms perfume or make up, or a teenager picking out that cucumber melon body spray for the first time. Those little sparks of joy that brighten your day. I guess my target audience is the mom picking out her favorite scent that takes her back to her teen years and the teenagers that are finding their new favorite. Just finding the right scent and wanting that memory but also having good ingredients to be beneficial while using it.
