Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tullia Ferraro. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Tullia, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I was very lucky to grow up with parents that were never strict with me. They never put me down for something I did wrong and they always encouraged me to do my best and never worry about the consequences. With this type of moral being taught to me from a very young age, I started to develop a strong sense of resilience that I still carry with me every day. Not every day will turn out to be a good one; the important thing is to not give up and keep trying. Keep doing your best and eventually your efforts will be rewarded… and you won’t lose a night of sleep over some things that you have no control over.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I was born and raised in Genoa, a city in northern Italy. I never really knew what I was supposed to be/do growing up; I come form a background of doctors in my family, but I always knew that wasn’t something that would fit who I was and who I am. It was during my 4th year of high school (in Italy we also have a fifth year) that I finally decided to take my first acting class in Milan. That amazing journey ended with my very first role in an Indie Film that premiered the following year. By that time I had already moved to the United States, by myself, to pursue my career in acting. I could never see myself doing anything else, if not acting.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Since we spoke about it earlier, I believe that, especially in the acting industry, it is absolutely necessary to have resilience and to be able to develop a though skin. Arts are always very subjective and every young and aspiring artist (such as myself) should learn sooner rather than later to not take anything personally. You might not be the right fit for that specific role, movie, producer, or casting director, but rest assure, if you keep your head up and you keep trying, you will find your place. There’s no such a thing as a failed artist, there are just an artists who stopped trying.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always on the lookout for potential partners and fellow artists to collaborate with. I feel like it’s crucial for artists to surround themselves with anything or anyone that can keep them entertained, motivated and inspired. As an actress, I usually look for fellow actors (I always learn something new from my peers), writers, producers, DP’s etc. to create new project and get inspired by one another.
