Meet Ty Terry

We recently connected with Ty Terry and have shared our conversation below.

Ty , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter Syndrome is tricky because you can master it (or learn to cope with it healthily) in regard to one aspect of your life, but may experience it with something else. Overcoming imposter syndrome started with me accepting myself and recognizing who I am. As a content creator, especially, I’ve been able to step into places that I’d only dreamed of being in and that was truly a struggle for me because I haven’t been doing it as long as others have. There was always that thought of “Am I good enough”, “Do I deserve to be in this position?”. But quality over quantity right? I’ve always been the type of person to put my all into anything I’m interested in so I can master it and produce quality work every single time. That alone is enough. The other thing I realized is, if everyone around you affirms your talent, you should start believing them! Maintaining that awareness allows me to fight back against those self-limiting beliefs and keep pressing forward knowing I’ve worked hard and have rightfully earned the life I am blessed to have.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Ty, my brand is Tamberlands and I’m a full-time content creator and digital marketing strategist! Not only do I get the opportunity to represent myself and other brands, I also assist brands and companies with their marketing as well. I’ve always been a multi-faceted person; loads of interests, varying degrees, and expertise in different subjects. Content creation allows me to display all of those passions and talents through my brand. But most importantly? It allows me to be my 100% authentic self, where I always felt limited in other industries. My main focuses include lifestyle, beauty, and travel! I have so many campaigns coming up in April, and by summer I’m hoping to launch something very special for the gworls and bwoys!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’ve always been a very visual person and I’ve always LOVED photography; I just have a knack for it I suppose. That said, it has helped me move quickly into the content creation space. But I think what truly helped, was me developing the confidence to allow my personality to shine just as much as my camera quality.

Also, throughout college I was very active on campus and held several leadership roles. Marketing was a HUGE part of my job at my school. I was a graphic designer on the side and regularly used traditional mediums to market our organization events as well as social media.

Being curious about trying different things is what ultimately led me here!

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Not overthinking and being decisive are constant struggles, but something I feel I’ve showed growth in. I realized some time ago that this was due to a lack of confidence. I often second guess myself or doubt my intuition. But as I focus heavily on my spiritual growth, I’m becoming more and more confident with what I’m doing on a daily basis and it has allowed me to have much more “flow” in my day.
