Meet Tyler Larsen

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyler Larsen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyler below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Tyler with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic was instilled at a young age by my parents and my grandparents. They always worked hard to achieve what they had and expected us to work hard for everything as well. My grandfather Fred owned and operated a roofing business for 40+ years. Roofing was my first job and as you can imagine not the funnest job for a kid growing up in Arizona. However I learned to work hard and enjoy the journey and the outcome.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am an owner of Ethos Martial Arts where I teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Viking Striking. We pride ourselves on the culture that we have created within our school. I am most proud of the ability we have to really make an impact in the community and being able to help people in a unique way.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Something that really helped me when it comes to building the business and culture of the school has been using skills that I have acquired from different times in my life. I was heavily into the music scene in my early 20’s, I have used what I learned in that area such as marketing and building relationships. My advice would to always be looking for new ways to improve and trust in the knowledge you already have.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
I would definitely say the book that helped me and played an important role is Jack Donovan’s “The Way of Men”. Donovan has a phrase in the book “Start the World” which really resonated with me. Creating my own world within our world was my goal, we created Ethos.
