Meet Tyra Perry

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyra Perry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyra below.

Hi Tyra, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
By allowing myself to thrive in talents that I know are God given, I have been able to overcome imposter syndrome. In addition to that, I taught myself to live by a “safe to fail” mindset. By doing so, I can give my all in everything I do without the fear of failure holding me back.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a self-taught makeup artist, certified life coach, and serial entrepreneur. Additionally, I have also worked in HR and Recruitment for the past 7 years. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Master’s Degree in Human Resources Development. Although I’ve spent 6 years in school to jumpstart my career, I’ve decided to follow my dreams of becoming a full-time makeup artist. I am also 1/3 of a collaborative beauty group, offering makeup parties to groups of women.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The top three that I feel were most impactful were resilience, problem solving, and accountability.

In any journey, there will be obstacles and roadblocks, so it is important to learn how to navigate those and not get discouraged along the way. It is also important to learn alternative routes and how to accept criticism and feedback that will help you to grow.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
During those moments, I schedule a day of nothing. No phone calls, social media, or chores. We all need a day to reset, and this has been helpful for me to get myself to a place of opening up more mental capacity.
