Meet Umm-e-hani Anis

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Umm-e-hani Anis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Umm-e-hani , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Creativity is like a muscle honestly, it needs to constantly be exercised and if its over exerted, you can get tired. I found that when I was in corporate, my creative muscle was not being used at all and I was constantly craving something creative. Once I started my business, there are some weeks where I am pulled into working towards a creative project and at the end of that I can start to get exhausted. It is important to rest and recharge when this happens. I also always find that if I am in a rut, changing the place that I am in can also help.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am passionate about growing small businesses and brands in the south asian community through collaboration and connection. I think the benefit that our clients have found by working with us is our vast network and I am constantly bringing them new opportunities. By helping people connect, it creates such creative ideas and I love helping bring those to life.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think determination, hard work and a positive attitude. Determination was key because building a business is not easy, and there are times when it gets really rough. You have to be able to constantly problem solve. Hard work goes hand in hand with that. A positive attitude really helps again when you cannot predict what is going to happen.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Honestly, I have been lucky to have such a strong support system from my parents when it comes to building this business. Every time I struggle or get down, they are right there to help me.
