We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Vanessa Natteal a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Vanessa, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity comes from my mom. It didn’t matter what it was if she had you had and she looked for nothing in return. My mom always taught us that it was the simple things that matter and as long as your heart is in the right place then things will be alright.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
So, what I do is sell mobile/remote notary services and customized gifts and sensory bottles. What makes Koala Escape N’ Tingz different is that our clientele is just that clientele. They are not just another customer to be passed along. We take our time and use the most extreme care when notarizing important documents or even customizing your gifts. Whether it’s a sensory bottle for your toddler or a relax jar for your desk or even a flower arrangement for a sick family member, lost loved one or just to say I love you. It doesn’t matter every step of the process is smooth and we try to cover everything within one fail swoop. We don’t want to overload you with advertisements you don’t want and we’re not going to force you to purchase anything you can’t use for a lifetime. When you purchase one of our customized gifts we want you or whoever you purchased it for to love it and be able to enjoy it for a lifetime. If you need a notary done and you can’t meet us we can just get you notarized only and do it in the most confidential and private manner. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
For me one of the qualities we use is empathy. We want to understand your need and provide you with the utmost quality product or service. Another I would say would be consistency. You have to stay consistent in order to grow your baby. I myself have struggled with this on numerous occasions and have allowed the “noise” to take over and deter me. Last quality would be persistence. Even though my consistency hasn’t always been there I am persistent. I did not give up I continued to push through and overcome the obstacles I faced. No matter how hard they were I never allowed them to stop me from getting to where I know I want to be. The advice I would give to others is don’t stop. Whatever you do you have to keep pushing. You have to tune out the noise and push for the outer limits. Don’t be afraid to step out there and believe in yourself, even when no one else does.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I would have to say my fiancée. She has been pivotal in the growth of my business. She has walked this path with from when we both were furloughed in 2020 due to the pandemic. She has helped me to maintain my positivity even when I feel like the skies look bleak. She always reminds me what I do this this for and why I do this. We have faced some pretty steep hills in our journey and when I was ready to give up she gave me the extra push I needed to go that extra mile. Everyone has their breaking point and she is a constant reminder of why we must stay motivated and continue to strive for better.
