Meet Vera Lotus Onatah

We were lucky to catch up with Vera Lotus Onatah recently and have shared our conversation below.

Vera Lotus , so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
There where many times when I worked in finance that I would be the only melanated woman in the room. Being that I grew up in a multicultural environment I was accustomed to sharing space with various groups but the energy of a boardroom was different. When ever I would feel uncomfortable I would remind myself that I earned and deserved my right to be there. I would allow my knowledge and experience to be my armor whenever others would try to undermine my position and I would never hold my tongue when I had something to say.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the Creatrix of The Lotus Mother, and I am a passionate advocate for women’s spiritual empowerment and holistic well-being. I have has developed a unique spiritual fitness program called Luscious With Lotus, which combines movement, energy release, and intuitive development. This program serves as a catalyst for women to release deeply rooted emotional and physical energy, fostering a harmonious relationship between mind, body, and spirit.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I am a strong and thorough communicator. For me there is nothing more important. It allows you to express your thoughts and actions with precision and that prevents misunderstanding which is imperative in both business and personal relationships

I am a serial learner because knowledge is power. You will be more self sufficient and when you are partnering with others you will be able to have insight in case you have to handle multiple roles.

Now the last one for me is honesty. For some that is not a skill but to me it is because being able to speak it and receive it makes you a better person.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Self actualization and wow it was major. Before I fully developed a connection to myself I had to be a sister and mother to others. When I left my job in Corporate America I had the opportunity to be alone with myself for the first time in 25 years. There were places I hadn’t witnessed in a millennia and others that I was introduced to. I had to let go of who I had become for everyone else and grow into the woman I needed and deserved to be.
