We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Veronica McCoy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Veronica, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
As a woman, I have developed confidence and self-esteem by embracing my natural beauty and cultural identity, surrounding myself with supportive individuals, and celebrating my achievements and resilience. Through self-care, empowering mentorships, and unapologetic self-expression, I have developed a strong sense of self-worth and unshakable confidence.

My name is Veronica McCoy from Baltimore, Maryland. I am the creator of Perfect Finish Lip Wear. Perfect Finish Lip Wear is a small-batch brand created in August of 2021. The concept behind the brand was to create neutral/nude lipstick and lip gloss colors that would appeal to the everyday man or woman. I wanted to create a product that could be worn for any occasion, date night, running errands, etc. that’s cost-effective, made with simple ingredients to promote healthy lips and look stunning at the same time.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Creativity and innovation were the qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that had the most significant impact on my journey. These allowed me to develop unique, high-quality lip products that stood out in the market. Strong communication skills enable me to effectively connect with my customers, build a loyal community, and collaborate with other content creators.
My entrepreneurial spirit and adaptability allowed me to navigate the challenges of building a brand from scratch, pivot when necessary, and continuously learn and grow as a business owner.
I would advise others to develop or improve their creativity, communication, and entrepreneurial spirit early on in their journey.
The advice I would give others early on in their journey would be to develop or improve their qualities of creativity, communication, and entrepreneurial spirit.
1. Creativity: Embrace curiosity and explore new interests. Practice brainstorming and idea-generation techniques. Take calculated risks and embrace failure as a learning opportunity. Collaborate with others to combine perspectives and ideas.
2. Communication: Listen actively, seek feedback, be open to constructive criticism, and develop storytelling skills to connect with others.
3. Entrepreneurial spirit: Develop a growth mindset and embrace challenges as opportunities. Set clear goals and prioritize tasks to achieve them. Seek out mentorship and guidance from experienced entrepreneurs. Stay adaptable and be willing to pivot when necessary.
Keep learning, growing, and pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone.
