We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Vincent Richmond a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Vincent, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience has definitely served me a great purpose, especially with my career in acting and the constant auditioning and submissions that come with it. I believe my time in wrestling has been the main aspect in building up that trait. The constant practices and literal blood, sweat, and tears put in day in and day out to get ready for the matches and ultimately win helped bring in resilience and stay focused on goals. Knowing that there is a win at the end of my efforts is always helpful to me to keep my focus and keep pushing on no what obstacles I face along the way.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am an actor with experience in theatre, film, commercials, and voice-over. I also model with more of my work going towards products and lifestyle. What excites me the most about what I do is meeting and networking with a variety of people and learning their life stories and seeing how we all came to the positions that we came to. I feel like that also helps me get a great feeling about the stories that are being told to the audience or the viewers and how I can play a great part in it as well.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think the three most impactful traits that helped me on my journey are being personable, resilient, and optimistic. These will definitely be help traits to learn and apply in the acting field because there are a lot of opportunities to network and build lasting connections and that’s where being personable and optimistic come into play. The resiliency comes into play with the auditioning and waiting game to hear from casting and the constant “yes and no”. These are great to develop and improve by initiating casual conversation throughout and getting to know others and also getting comfortable with yourself and understanding what drew you to the field and why you want to pursue it.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents had done for me was being supportive. I have heard so many stories from my peers about their parents not supporting their dream of being in the entertainment field. At first, my parents were surprised that I had decided to pursue acting because of my previous time being all in on wrestling the transition was a bit of a head-scratcher. Once they saw me in my first role in the production of ‘In the Red and. Brown Water’ in college they saw how much I put into my role and from that day on they are some of my most prominent supporters.
