We recently connected with Vitaliy Lyubezhanin and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Vitaliy with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Coming from an immigrant family, I believe I have very strong work ethics. My parents arrived in the States with just a few suitcases and were forced to simply figure it out- learn the language, find work, and support the family. I grew up watching and learning from my parents what it meant to work hard and not give up when it gets tough. My father made sure that not a single Saturday would go by where I wouldn’t be working in the garden, helping with house projects, or helping babysit younger siblings. I’m grateful for the childhood I had because learning to work hard at such a young age was a key factor in developing the work ethic I have today.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am first and foremost a husband and father to 4 beautiful kids. Secondly, I am a wedding cinematographer and most recently, a business owner. I have been in the wedding industry for over 15 years and pretty much know all the ins and outs of the trade. I saw a reoccurring problem in the wedding video industry- most videos are watched once or twice, but then end up forgotten on hard drives or computers. There really is no way to physically “print” videos as you would with photos. To remedy this, together with my wife, we started The Motion Books and developed the solution to forgotten wedding videos. The Motion Books are physical albums that look and feel like regular albums. But when you open them, they play your wedding video in high definition, audio included. It’s a tangible way to keep and enjoy your most special videos. We offer personalization to video book covers so your wedding video book is truly unique. It’s incredible to see peoples’ reactions when they open a video book for the first time. The Motion Books have truly captured the attention of thousands of brides and couple worldwide and we are so grateful for everyone who leaves us reviews and posts about their video books on social media. What is more exciting is that our video books have landed in the hands of celebrities, NFL players, and Olympic gold medalists. People truly love their wedding videos and The Motion Books offers a perfect solution to keep those cherished memories on display.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Experience in the Wedding Industry: Prior to launching The Motion Books, I had amassed over 15 years of experience in the wedding industry. This foundation provided valuable insights into the dynamics, trends, and customer needs within the industry. Working closely with wedding vendors and brides allowed to me to tailor our company to offer products and services that meet their needs. My advice for those embarking on their journey- gaining industry-specific experience is immensely beneficial. Whether through internships, entry-level positions, or freelance work, immerse yourself in your chosen field to learn the ins and outs of the trade.
2. Never Stop Learning: I make an effort to continuously learn and dedicate time for research in tech, business, and wedding industries. Read books, blogs, watch videos, and establish connections with people who you can learn from.
3. Have an Entrepreneurial Mindset: One of the most fulfilling aspects of my journey has been cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset and enjoying the autonomy that comes with being my own boss. This mindset is not just about starting a business; it’s a way of thinking and approaching challenges with creativity, resourcefulness, and a willingness to take risks. Being my own boss also allows me to align my work with my passions and values. There’s a saying that goes, “find a job that you love doing and you’ll never work a day in your life”. And I truly agree with that because I love what I do! My advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is to embrace the entrepreneurial mindset wholeheartedly. Recognize that being your own boss is not just about freedom and flexibility, but also about assuming responsibility, seizing opportunities, and charting your own path to success.
