We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Vy Pham a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Vy, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
Staying optimistic can be quite challenging when confronted with life’s hurdles and setbacks. There have been moments in my journey where I felt overwhelmed, questioning how I could possibly overcome certain challenges. However, I’ve persisted and managed to move forward. While I still encounter daily struggles in maintaining optimism, I’ve come to a realization that everything will eventually work out.
One of the key factors contributing to my ability to maintain this mindset is my choice to surround myself with positive individuals and to practice gratitude consistently. In order to sustain a hopeful perspective, I’ve had to continually train myself to appreciate the progress I’ve made and be grateful for the personal growth I’ve experienced.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I identify as a Visual Artist, and one of my preferred mediums of visual communication is through photography. Recently, I’ve developed a strong passion for capturing still life images. Through these still life shoots, my goal is to narrate compelling stories by utilizing a diverse range of objects, foods, beverages, and products. This passion has become the focal point of my creative journey.
I’m excited to share that I have several international trips on the horizon, including a return to my beloved hometown, Vietnam. During these journeys, my goal is to craft an abundance of images that will help me convey the stories and experiences that are close to my heart.
Looking forward, my intention is to persistently explore various forms of art, nurturing my creative spirit and endeavoring to keep producing meaningful work.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I must admit that I’m still on my own journey of self-discovery and personal growth, and I believe there’s always more to learn and develop. However, if I were to offer advice to those who are at the beginning of their journey and looking to enhance their qualities and skills, I would strongly recommend to embrace a growth mindset. Embracing this mindset means continually seeking opportunities for learning and improvement. Whether it’s through formal education, self-directed learning, or seeking mentorship, the key is to keep an open mind and actively seek out ways to expand your knowledge and capabilities.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I owe a significant part of my growth and development to the people in my life. From my interactions with various individuals to the unwavering support of my loved ones and friends, I’ve been continuously learning and expanding my knowledge thanks to them.
My parents and family are truly my driving force, always inspiring and motivating me to push myself and work hard in life.
Yet, I’d like to acknowledge the exceptional role my current partner has played in my journey. He has been a constant presence, providing valuable mental support, assisting me on sets, and helping me overcome numerous challenges. I can’t express how grateful I am for his presence in my life; he has been instrumental in my progress, and I truly couldn’t have achieved what I have without him.
