Meet Walter Cortez Mooney

We recently connected with Walter Cortez Mooney and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Walter, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Well Jehovah god doesn’t give you things you don’t need and growing up in the environment I grew up in let’s just say people are not going to show a lot belief in you anyway and if you show a interest outside of playing sports, hustling, or rapping good luck with getting the support of friends, family or the community . So coming out the gate I had to have a lot of confidence and believe in myself cause I fount out fast nobody else gone believe in you like you believe in yourself. No one else can accomplish your dreams but you and it start with having the self esteem & confidence to feel your are strong enough to take that dark and lonely road. that path will feel not real and unattainable

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Well a lot people think I do this for the money and fame but the truth of the matter when I first started it wasn’t a lot money involved and no fame in being a extra lol but I knew I wanted more and if I worked hard enough I could accomplish it. I write articles like this not for the average person but for people That come from a situation similar to mind . I’m talking to the kid that never left his city and know nothing outside what he see in his neighborhood and think it’s no other way then what he see and the dysfunctional behavior he’s been taught or inherited. All we do is send these kids to school and expect some type of different result when the school is in the same dysfunctional community they live in ! So how is that a escape or refuge. in our community our youth don’t want to listen to no pastor or reverend cause in they eyes don’t nobody want to hear nothing from someone who use to get high or consider a lame ! These kids need to hear these stories from people they can relate to ! that they feel come from where they from and can relate to there struggle’s no one knows the pressure of a gang like some one who’s actually been in a gang ! Who can be a better example of how to get out the streets and quit hustling! But someone who was once all those things. I been shot I been all those things that these kids around America are going threw and that’s why I feel I’m obligated to tell the next generation. It’s steps that you can take in your life that can change your situation no matter your background or up bringing. but like I always instruct the people who look up to me the biggest part of change starts with inside you. Some people think change is moving to a different city but that’s just a change of residence, some think I been sober a year and that’s change but that’s just a change of habits or additions and all those things are a start but to achieve true change you have to change your mindset . If you change jobs from Wendy’s to jiffy lube did you really change or just change employment? cause both of those jobs are going no where fast. So changing your mindset of what you want and feel important in life is the true change that you have to come to grips with some of us are so Vega & shallow we get a new haircut and outfit act like we new people but you still have the same lofty goals and ambition which makes you the same !

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The ability to listen and taken in wisdom from those wiser than me , except criticism & disciplined from those that want to see you do better ! We live in a era where so many young males grow up with out a father or a positive strong voice or influence in they life they don’t know how to take structure or instruction from those wiser than there self they run off and cry first time someone comes down on them and if you have the option to do that your whole life how does that help you? that’s exactly what most do they reject discipline so they never round they self out so it’s harder for them to adjust outside of the closet or little corner they excise and function in. To truly be able to adjust to society you have to be well rounded and educated know when to stand strong, but also know when it’s time to show some flexibility don’t always think you need to be hard and take things head on know when it’s time to duck and show restraint . when you step outside of the street bs you learn every time someone says something to you or about you ! You don’t always need to respond this next generation has to learn some times the best response is to ignore ignorance

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I would say my better half Claire she has been along with me threw this journey. It was times I was ready to quit and give up and face the fact that I was nothing more than a former rapper at the end of his career turned club owner and that’s all I was going to amount to but babe got in my ear and talked me into taking acting class and taking the steps to making acting real not just a vision or hobby
