We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wendy Ramirez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wendy below.
Wendy, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic is strong….like bull. I’ve always worked. I volunteered a lot before I got my first job in high school. I would volunteer with Big Brothers of Greater Los Angeles. I got my first job at 15 and just always maintained jobs through out my life to support my family. I became involved in the service industry and worked my way up from being a hostess to becoming a general manager at restaurants and in that time I always had 2-3 jobs depending on what was available in those hours. I worked very hard my whole life and when the time came to pursue my business I knew exactly what I had to do. I know the meaning of true grit.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I run a licensed home bakery where I make people’s celebrations extra special by creating sugary dreams come true. I make show stopping cakes, exquisite decorated cookies, and everything that you need for an enchanted dessert table. I help to sweetly adorn any celebration. Whether it be a lavished wedding, bar/bat mitzvah, Quinceañeras, baptisms, birthday parties, anniversaries, baby showers, bridal showers or just when a plain ordinary day needs to be sweeter. Corporations have enjoyed my desserts with dessert tables, corporate gifting, employee appreciation gifts and custom gift baskets. I can decorate corporate logos iced onto cookies to make a great marketing tool. Truly my baking abilities has no limits. I want everyone to indulge in my talents and skill with the whisk. Everyone has special moments in their lives to celebrate and having elaborate desserts really brings the whole party together. I Love it when my loyal customers chose me to help them celebrate and bring smiles to their milestones. Birthdays should be festive. Everyone is special and we should be made to feel extra special with a unique dessert experience. This year in 2024 I will be venturing into teaching private classes, and having cookie decorating at birthdays. Decorating cupcake/cookies/cakes at parties or a get together of friends who would like to learn. I would love to share my craft with others who also love to spread joy as much as I do. Decorating with Wendy gives you the basic tools to start your sweet endeavor.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Persistence is number one. Without it there is nothing else. You have to keep going no matter what life throws at you. In business or anything else. Do not give up no matter how dire things get because when it seems all dark if you keep going soon enough there will be a light at the end and then you go towards that. It may get dark again, but there will always be light.
Second is to know what you are doing. Do research. Do what you got to do to capitalize on what you know and perfect it. Practice your skill. Lean on what makes you special and find out how to monetize it.
Finally, Love what you do. It can be a struggle. Some days I am so overworked that I forget why I wanted to do all this in the first place. But when you get down to the heart of the matter and I think about the smiles on my customers faces when they see their cake and cookies, it truly makes it worth it.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would really love to work with more elite Los Angeles event planners and LA wedding coordinators.. And not just in Los Angeles but I can travel all over Southern California. I already have a client base in the Conejo Valley and would love to deliver more cakes to Santa Barbara. We love to offer a wide array of desserts to help compliment any celebration. For kid’s parties, popular items are cereal treats, cake pops, chocolate dipped pretzels, custom dipped oreos, character cookies, and the show stopping shaped cakes and 3D cakes. But I don’t stop at kid’s parties, I entice more adult palettes with items such as cheesecake cups, mousse cups, petit fours, tarts, extravagant cakes, and luxurious decorated cookies and anything else your sweet dreams can conjure. I can literally make any dessert for you. So if any party planners are reading this please feel free to connect with me anyway you prefer. Call/text 818-350-3179
