We were lucky to catch up with Whit Devereaux recently and have shared our conversation below.
Whit, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I would say that purpose found me. Everything I have experienced in life has been used by God; the great times and tough challenges. All of it led me to identifying that I could help others simply by living an intentional life beyond my circumstances.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I currently work as a Holistic Defense Case Manager at a local non-profit organization bridging together my paralegal and social services background for youth involved in the criminal justice system. I am what is referenced as an “Employed Entrepreneur.” I have written 2 books entitled Not By My Own and The Girl With The Crooked Smile and have co-authored 3 anthologies. I am most passionate about violence prevention outreach and was recently recognized by the local police department for my community service.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
3 qualities that are most important to develop are compassion, being inquisitive, and a desire for knowledge. The best advice I can give is to constantly put yourself in the position of learning new skills. You’re never too young to do something great nor are you ever too old to learn something new.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m looking to collaborate with nonprofits, schools, and agencies where we can partner on violence prevention strategies. Specifically I am available for workshops, speaking engagements, and vendor opportunities to teach advocacy and teen dating violence 101.
