Meet Whitney Hurt

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Whitney Hurt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Whitney , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Overcoming imposter syndrome is a constant fight. I say that because it’s something that can lie dormant and it can creep up on you when you feel things aren’t going the way they should or when you are in a slow season as an entrepreneur. How I have overcome imposter syndrome is to shift my focus on what is working versus what isn’t. If you harp on the things that aren’t working or you feel you have missed some self given deadline in your timeline of life. Your focus becomes negative and you are more likely to remain stagnant. I choose to take the route of positive even when I don’t feel like it. Because my purpose requires that of me!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hello I am Whitney the owner of WeddingsByWhitneyB we are a memphis based wedding planning and design company. If I had to describe who I am as a wedding/event planner I would say that I am the guru of wedding experiences! My focus for every event is to give the guests in attendance a memorable yet wow experience. I want guests 5 even 10 years later still raving about how amazing and how beautiful the event was. My company believes in creating exceptional events with seamless execution for Extraordinary couples. While weddings are where we started in this amazing industry we are launching corporate services this fall which is super exciting for us. We look forward to building relationships with more companies especially in the memphis and surrounding areas.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Being a good listener, willing to think outside the box, and being a great organizer have been key to my success as a entrepreneur and a successful wedding and event planner. Being a good listener is someone who doesn’t listen to respond but one who listens to better the situation. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself doing the same thing the same way does not equate to being safe. Welcome the challenges they are created to bring out the best in you.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I am overwhelmed I simply take a break to reset. The entrepreneur mindset is to go hard and give it your 100% but the truth is there is no way you can be successful when you are overwhelmed. Being overwhelmed leads directly to burn out. My strategy and advice is to treat your race for exactly what it is a marathon and not a sprint. Pace your race stay in your lane and take as many breaks as you need to so that you are a healthy you. Mental health is wealth!
