Meet William Welch

We were lucky to catch up with William Welch recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have William with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
The strong work ethic that has been a huge part of my life stems from my service in the Army. I joined as a 20 year old boy and endured 4 combat deployments, loads of responsibility before I was ready and the opportunity to work with all walks of life in demanding environments.

There was no room for a lackadaisical attitude. Missions and tasks affected people’s lives and we had to work together and do everything we could to achieve the best possible results.

This type of early work ethic reinforcement has stuck to me to this day.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
At the end of my 20 year Army career, my wife and I knew we needed to kick-start a business that represents us. We have a love for pets, especially our dog-boy named Turbo. He has been a huge factor helping me deal with loss and memories from my previous life. Turbo to us, is more of an actual family member rather than pet.

We decided that a way we can help other family pets is by ensuring they can be identified and pawrents called in the event the pet gets lost. This is accomplished with one of our custom pet identification tags.

Between Stephanie and me, we registered for an LLC, acquisitioned needed equipment, learned how to operate an e-commerce platform and started making sales.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, one of the most impactful aspects of our journey was having the guts to make a dream come true. We lacked the desirable experience needed to start up a small business, but that did not stop us. We researched and implemented the new skills we achieved through hard work and dedication. Also, with a little bit of trial and error.

Stephanie and I were able to tap into our creative minds that were dormant before then and started taking ideas and engraving those ideas on metal tags. We did not stop at tags, we have added mugs, pillowcase covers, slates and more to our entrepreneur endeavors.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Our biggest obstacle is marketing. We have learned there are algorithms, key words, add placements and much more to navigate through as we try to reach a larger audience. There is an abundance of competition in the e-commerce world, and we have only scratched the surface on the amount of people that we can reach.
