Meet Winnie Tataw

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Winnie Tataw. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Winnie below.

Winnie, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Overcoming imposter syndrome for me as an artist requires a combination of self-reflection, mindset shifts, and community support! Remember to celebrate my strengths and achievements, reframe my negative thoughts, and connect with others who can provide me with encouragement and support. I have to remember that making mistakes and facing challenges is a normal part of any creative journey, and that it’s important to embrace them as opportunities for growth and development!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hi everyone, my name is Winnie Tataw! I currently live in South Carolina. I am a self-published author and artist and it’s great to meet all of you. I have been making artwork since the first grade, and I’ve been writing since I was in middle school. I published my first book in 2019. It is a fantasy novel called Child of Tempus. Most of my artwork deals with bold and bright colors with sprinkles of surrealism and feminine depictions of humans and nature. I am such a big lover of nature and everything femme from the colors to our emotions to the stars in the sky. I find beauty and all of it, and it all inspires my work and helps me grow as a person as I get to dive into these different concepts and recreate them in my pieces. I love to travel and meet new people and understand new cultures and communities because I think that’s how we can be more connective and supportive of each other as a whole. I can’t wait to continue to see where my artistic and creative journeys take me in this world!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I would say creativity is a quality that every artist possesses. It is the ability to think outside the box and come up with original ideas that capture the audience’s attention. As an artist, you can develop your creativity by brainstorming and looking at other’s work. Secondly, proficiency in the medium of your choice is essential. This happens with time patience and practice. Perseverance is a crucial quality that every artist must have. It takes lots of effort to create a successful piece of art, and setbacks and failures are inevitable. As a young artist myself, I must be willing to put in the work and keep pushing through challenges to achieve my desired outcome.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
The artist(s) I am looking to collaborate with are those who have a clear vision and flair for fantasy and all things whimsical! They should also be open-minded and willing to take feedback. If you are an artist interested in collaborating with me, you can reach out to me through my website or Instagram, or you can send me an email at [email protected]. I am always open to new opportunities and look forward to hearing from you!
