Meet Wordplaii

We recently connected with Wordplaii and have shared our conversation below.

Wordplaii, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I overcame imposter syndrome through brute force. Still to this day there is times where I deal with it, but I’ve learned to ignore the running mind and push forward. The more that I submerge myself in my craft, the more natural it feels. There is even times where I may take a break and the longer my break goes on for, the more that feeling of being an imposter will try and get a grip on me. For me it’s all about ignoring your own negative thoughts and continuing to do what you know your purpose is.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have been making hip-hop music since I was very very young, but never until I was almost 21 did I start to overcome my doubts and take it seriously. I spend a lot of my time collaborating with different producers from all around the world, taking the music and instrumentation they create and making it into my own until we both reach a product we can agree on. For me the best part about being an artist is the moment you have an idea and momentum takes over, and the opposite of that, the moment when everything is said and done and you are left to admire your own work. My personal image is all about trying to show people you can do whatever you want, you don’t have to follow any rules. Losses will always be taken on any creative journey but you will learn along the way. I have been working hard shooting music videos all around Tampa for most of 2024 so far, and plan to release all of them by the years end! I just finished releasing one of them, featuring a track titled “Top Floor”. Top Floor is a song about overcoming life’s baggage and tragedy through personal development and never getting stuck at the bottom no matter what happens. I plan to release a 6 song EP sometime in July.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The ability to overlook the opinions of others. Including some quality of discipline in your everyday life. And giving yourself time between the constant cycle of work to process things. I understand everybody needs to work hard, but taking breaks is just as important. Many times the constant work, work, work, can create a smoke screen and cause you to interpret things in a way that isn’t quite correct. I have nearly ruined great projects through overthinking that was caused by obsessively overworking. Work hard! But take care of yourself in the process.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The Alchemist has impacted me since I first read it as a child. Many of the values taught in this book I still hold close to this day. The most important thing this book taught me was that the journey is more important than the peak will ever be, ENJOY YOUR STRUGGLES, OR YOU WILL NEVER ENJOY THE REWARD.
