Meet Yolimar Perry

We recently connected with Yolimar Perry and have shared our conversation below.

Yolimar, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Throughout my life learning from my own experiences and even from the experiences of people close to me, has been the key. Identifying the good or the bad of each situation that we go through, no matter how hard it is, and transforming it into opportunities that help us grow will be the guide that helps us behave differently in the future, and not repeat the same patterns that did not benefit us before.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the owner and baker of Oh Desserts located in Cordova TN. I was raised in a beautiful artisan town called El Hatillo in Caracas, Venezuela. As a little girl being raised in the bakery environment and watched my grandma create amazing desserts that, to this day, are a big part of our town square. Since then I knew that making such delicious desserts would be a part of my life. Being in Memphis a while and sharing with my coworkers, I realized that the desserts and flavors I knew didn’t exist here. I knew I wanted to share them with my co-workers. I would bring them a variety of cakes over time and one day a coworker asked me to make them a birthday cake. That moment is when it all started 6 years ago.

So now days I dedicate my days to make someone else’s day special by creating cakes, pastries and desserts that not only looks amazing but taste delicious as they look.

Currently we are working on expanding our menu with a mix of desserts from Venezuela and the Mid-South, as well as finishing up our website where everybody can find and buy our products.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Perseverance, discipline and dedication for me have been the skills that impact the most my journey. I’m very passionate of what I do so my products not only have to look incredible amazing but also consistency on flavor and texture as well as me be consistency with the quality of my service with my clients to keep their loyalty. A good product and a good service will make you known through the word of mouth.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Yes, becoming a mother has recently changed all my schemes and I am currently working on dedicating time to my daughter as well as keep growing our business and neither of them/us being affected by the other.
