Hi Za’Charie, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Thank you so much for having me. I think the most important characteristic a woman can have is confidence. I developed high self-esteem at a very young age because growing up I’ve always had a different look compared to all my peers, and I was picked on because my features were labeled “too exotic” for a black girl, but my mother always celebrated my beauty and encouraged me to embrace my differences. My mom struggled with low self-esteem as a child, so when she became a mother she vowed to never let her children have that same struggle so every single day she poured words of affirmation into me. Eventually, over time my cup overflowed with self-love and confidence, and honestly, I think it’s my superpower. In today’s time, the world has created so many unrealistic expectations and beauty standards, so I understand why some women struggle with confidence but I always try to remind myself that “comparison is the thief of joy”, and God made me just the way I am for a reason and I only get 1 life and 1 body so I need to love and appreciate it the best way I can.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Za’Charie Curtis, I currently live in Atlanta, Georgia. I’m originally from Detroit, Michigan, but I relocated 6 years ago. I’m the CEO of BaddieLuxe Hair Company. We offer 100% unprocessed virgin Brazilian hair extensions, closures, frontals, and wigs. We have 4 different textures available; straight, body wave, deep wave, and curly. We ship worldwide and Atlanta pickup is always an available option. The most exciting part about my job is God allowing me the opportunity to make other women feel beautiful.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back I think the three qualities that were most impactful on my journey were discipline, integrity, and confidence. To run a successful business these qualities are a necessity. I think any entrepreneur could develop these traits by making a conscious effort to prioritize being knowledgeable about the product or service their offering and staying consistent with or without immediate results. Being an entrepreneur is very challenging, and every day you won’t feel motivated or you won’t feel like promoting or posting. Despite those temporary feelings you have to remain disciplined and continue to put in the work to see results. Overnight success isn’t the reality of the majority of entrepreneurs’ success stories, and that’s okay so whenever you feel discouraged always remember this Bible verse, “Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.” Integrity and confidence are fundamental qualities every person should have, but as it relates to business you should always have integrity in your product and never sell your customers short if you want to build a reputable brand that will last. Having confidence in your business comes from being knowledgeable about what you’re offering and knowing what works best for your brand. Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My sister Jasmin has been the most helpful in helping me overcome challenges. Whenever I’m feeling discouraged or defeated she speaks life into me and reminds me that trials and tribulations are all apart of the journey. Sisterhood is truly one of the most vital relationships in my life, and I encourage every woman to surround themselves with likeminded women that inspire them.
