Zailuv, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I’ve had a lot of set backs in life. I think falling down is apart of what makes success so sweet though. If you fall down 100 times, that 1 time you make it feels so much more gratifying.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Zailuv and I’m an independent musician. I’ve been making music since I was in 8th grade, about 10 years now. I make a wide variety of music. Starting with hip hop and leaning into pop and alternative rock. Some of my biggest influences are Mac Miller, J Cole, Lil Peep, Smino and Felly. I’m currently working on a mix tape and some singles. This year I want to jump back into doing shows, as I’ve slowed down since the lock down. Look out for merch too!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Persistence
2. Patients
3. Faith
Just remember if you know that something is calling you.. I mean you feel the calling in your heart. You have to follow that. It’s your right to be happy and follow your dreams. A lot of people with have options about your dreams. But you have to be with yourself at the end of the day. Be the version of yourself that will make you happy, regardless of other’s opinions.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Recently I’m looking to expand my network of musical friends. I would love to have live instruments in my music more often, so anyone who plays I would love to get together and work something out. Also looking for sound engineers and producers. If you make beats or have a studio I would love to link up too. A big one is videographers or photographers! I really need to get some work done.
