Meet Zaneta Zaza

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Zaneta Zaza. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Zaneta below.

Zaneta, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Sometimes I think something is mentally wrong with me because I do what I want whenever I want. People tend to tell me I’m crazy, loud, and have no filter; people always ask this question, “how are you so confident and don’t care what people think?” Easy as that! I don’t care! I don’t care what people think or say about me which allows me to be myself; in doing so, it doesn’t make me feel restricted. I tell myself I’m beautiful and I know I hold value because there’s people out there who has it worst than me so I count my blessings and go on with my life.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a licensed cosmetologist since 2014, but specialize in glam, red carpet and on set makeup. I moved to Los Angeles, CA from Sacramento in May 2021 and I’ve been working with Zeus Network as one of their key makeup artist since December 2021. I’ve worked on set for most of their reunions, bad boys season 1 for Natalie Nunn’s makeup, full time for Baddies West Tour and now Full time for Baddies East Tour. I’ve also worked with several celebrities I’m unable to disclose due to NDA’s which is super exciting because I never thought I’d actually be doing this. Working as a celebrity makeup artist or just being a Los Angeles makeup artist is extremely unpredictable, but exciting at the same time. I love it! It’s something different everyday!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1) Customer Service: Treat People How You Want To Be Treated.

2) Sacrifice: You’ MUST have an understanding you’ll have to sacrifice your time, sleep, and lower your rates or do collaborations in order to get your name out there.

3) Be Present: Be yourself and ready to work!

I always tell family and friends if you want to work on celebrities just move here. All you need to do is be present, ready to work, be a genuine person and just yourself. I had to do a lot of free work and lower my rates in order to be where I’m at. Sometimes I still lower my rates when I give back to my community by doing discounts/promos.

It’s always going to get rough. The grass maybe greener on the other side, but I strongly advise you to stop looking on the other side and water your lawn! Plant your flowers, show yourself love and watch your grass grow. It’s always going to be green on your side because you made it better! There’s no better feeling than watching how far you’ve come.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Believe in me. I am so blessed that I have a supportive family and friends. I didn’t know a lot of people don’t have supportive parents. My dad is the reason why I attended beauty college and received my cosmetology license. I was a graphic designer at Art Institute of Sacramento. I believe I would of graduated with my BA, but web design program and coding was forced as my major because the school was new, 2009 we were their first students and AI didn’t have enough instructors for each program so they combined certain majors together as a requirement.

I dropped out of AI and continue to work as a caregiver because I didn’t have the patience for coding so my dad said, “why don’t you go to beauty college? You love coloring your hair, getting your nails done and always do makeup on your friends, patients and yourself. I know you love makeup, but get your cosmetology license for everything because you never know what will happen in the future.” I’m the hard head daughter and my dad til this day is shocked, but happy that’s the only advice I took from him. Hahaa! My dad was right! I’m happy I have my license because certain companies due to the pandemic they want makeup artist to be licensed and whenever makeup is slow I work at a salon in south central or Supercuts and do hair.

My mom, my dad, grandma, siblings and friends has been such an amazing support system. Anytime I’m on my last top ramen noodle or past due on a bill they always have my back. It sucks because I’m usually the one with 820 credit score, ducks in a row, rent and bills paid two months in advance to now a STARVING ARTIST lol. Anytime I get discouraged I always replay something my mom told me in 2012, “Sasa you have to strengthen your mind! You do that and everything falls into place.” I’m just so blessed man, I don’t know what I’d do without my family and day 1 friends!
