We were lucky to catch up with Zia Domic recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Zia with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My parents are both European immigrants and there is no stronger work ethic than that of an ambitious immigrant in the new world. My parents are both well educated – my dad was a geologist and mom an accountant and really instilled the importance of education. My mom told me at a young age that as much as she loves being a mother is wasn’t enough for her she wanted a career and purpose – so I carried that with me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Unfortunately, for myself, I have never been driven by money – I have a deep need to be creative which brought me to becoming a fashion blogger – I had no idea what the future would hold with now having to create video in addition to just posing for photos in carefully curated outfits with interesting backdrops. Ive had to learn to shoot, edit, add music and do voice overs all to capture an audiences attention.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My mantra throughout both my acting career and now as an influencer has been “stay true to yourself” its so easy to get caught up in what other more successful people are doing and trying to emulate their vibe, it will just look inauthentic and people will see right through it. Also knowing your worth – what are you willing to do and for what? I feel a lot of brands are trying to take advantage of less experienced creators who don’t necessarily understand contracts and will create content for free product etc
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
There are daily challenges in being a content creator – always having to navigate new trends, new algorithms, losing followers, trying to gain new ones – its truly exhausting so I just try to focus on what drove me to start in this business in the beginning: being creative, my deep love for fashion and concern for the environment.
