We recently had the chance to connect with Nicole Farr and have shared our conversation below.
Nicole, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, joy has been showing up for me through adventure. I absolutely love to travel and explore new places, and right now I’m gearing up for a week-long trip to Belize with a group of 20 incredible women. We’ll spend the first half of the trip trekking through jungles and waterfalls, and then shift into four days of glamping on the beach. It’s definitely pushing me a little outside my comfort zone, but that’s part of what makes it so energizing. I’m excited to soak in the beauty, connect with other women, and step into experiences that expand me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Nicole Farr, aka Coach Nicki, the founder of NickiFit A to Z and a sleep health coach for women in midlife. I help women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s rebuild their strength, improve their hormone health, and restore their energy so they can feel vibrant, confident, and fully alive again. My work blends fitness, gentle movement, sleep coaching, and simple nutrition habits into a whole-person approach that meets women exactly where they are, especially when they’re exhausted, overwhelmed, or feeling disconnected from themselves.
What makes my brand unique is that it was born from my own journey of burnout and rebuilding. I know what it feels like to pour into everyone else and lose touch with your own needs, and I’ve dedicated my work to helping women reclaim their energy and identity without hustle, punishment, or perfection. Right now, I’m expanding NickiFit A to Z to serve even more women through my signature 12-week 1 on 1 coaching program, The Nourish Move Flourish Method, online nutrition and healthy habits coaching, and approachable at-home workouts designed specifically for midlife bodies. My mission is simple: to help women feel strong, rested, and empowered to step into the next chapter of their lives.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My grandmother saw me clearly long before I ever saw myself. She passed from ALS more than 20 years ago, but during the early stages of her diagnosis, I spent a month caring for her the summer after my sophomore year of college. Her doctors had recommended water aerobics to help keep her body mobile, so every day we went to class together. I was 20 and had no idea I’d enjoy it so much, it became this surprising, joyful experience we shared.
When it was time for me to return to school, she wrote me a letter encouraging me to consider leading classes myself. I didn’t act on it at the time, but looking back, she saw the teacher, the coach, and the encourager in me long before I recognized it. And now, 28 years later, I’m guiding women through their health and fitness journeys, including teaching water aerobics. It feels like the most beautiful full-circle blessing.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain the moment I realized it could be a pathway, not a prison.
After a painful divorce, I found myself drowning in anxiety, anger, and depression. I didn’t know where to turn, so I started running, strength training, and practicing yoga just to cope. But something unexpected happened: the more I moved my body and nourished myself, the more grounded I felt. Little by little, movement became my medicine. I could feel my spirit lifting, my mind clearing, and my sense of self returning. That was the moment I knew I had to share this with other women, and that’s when NickiFit A to Z was born.
My journey hasn’t been a straight line. Even years later, anxiety and low moods still surfaced, especially when I was exhausted or burnt out. I started to see the pattern clearly: when I slept well, I was resilient, hopeful, and energized. When I didn’t, the rollercoaster started all over again. And I saw that same struggle in almost every woman I worked with, especially in midlife, when sleep becomes harder and life becomes heavier. That’s when my mission evolved. Today, the heart of my coaching is helping women sleep better, restore their energy, and reclaim the joy they’ve worked so hard to earn. My pain lit the path, but my purpose is what keeps me going.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version of me is the real me. I work hard to stay authentic in every space I show up in: on social media, with my clients, in friendships, and at home behind closed doors. What you see in my business is the same woman my closest people see, someone who cares deeply, leads with honesty, and is committed to her own growth.
Anytime I drift out of alignment with my true self, I feel it immediately. There’s friction. Decision-making gets harder. My confidence wavers. Everything feels heavier because I know I’m trying to be something I’m not. Staying authentic isn’t just a value for me, it’s a form of self-care. It’s how I stay grounded, connected, and able to pour into the women I serve from a place of integrity and genuine purpose.
Authenticity isn’t always as glamorous as what’s often projected in the health and fitness space, but I’ll choose being real…every single time.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Without a doubt, I tap dance to work every day. Leading NickiFit A to Z has become so much more than a job; it’s a mission I’m honored to steward. As the CEO, I get to build a brand that is reshaping how women in midlife experience their bodies, their energy, and their potential. Waking up each morning knowing I’m creating real change is the kind of fuel every entrepreneur dreams of.”
Stepping into this role gave me a new level of clarity and conviction. I don’t experience the Sunday Scaries, I experience momentum. I get to guide a movement, innovate within women’s wellness, and deliver programs that genuinely transform lives. Seeing a woman go from depleted and overwhelmed to strong, rested, and thriving is the impact that keeps me energized and hungry to keep expanding what’s possible for the women I serve.
