OJ Perry shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning OJ, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
In today’s world, full of social channels and everyone hitting their success into your face, I’m pretty sure most of the influencers and artists out there struggle with the imposter syndrome – the feeling of not being good enough. Most would never touch this subject, I did very openly back in the days of Twitter Spaces.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Photography is the one thing that drives mw and has done so since I was about 10. I grew up in Austria with an Austrian mum and a British dad and my younger brother. My main genre is landscape photography, with side steps into urban photography and shootings with people. My work mostly is on the moody spectrum – dream like images of peaceful spots around the world, and some more vibrant scenes accumulate during my travels. Currently I’m finishing post production for next year’s Vienna Fire Fighter’s calendar.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a veterinary very early on and wanted to work in Austrialia – probably because of the kangaroos and the koala bears, which I loved so much.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, and quite a lot of them. I’m often doubting my potential, but I’m also a fighter. Giving up never really was an option.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
There’s a huge part of me in there, but only my husband and my family know the real OJ. And that one is someone who’s fighting to make time for his passion, who’s struggling to carry on, who doubts himself, who gets easily intimidated by the talent of others.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
During my work with my camera. There’s so much peace being out there in nature, hearing its sounds, breathing the freshair, taking it all in. That’s my kind of escape and retreat.
