Paty Mariposa Hernandez of Miami on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Paty Mariposa Hernandez. Check out our conversation below.

Paty Mariposa, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I believe I am doing both, walking and wandering along the path of life. Since 2014 I have taken on the role as an entrepreneur which was never a thought in my mind until I was living in Nicaragua for a few months. While there I began to work with clients seeking support in various areas of their lives they were struggling in. I then decided to return to the US and learn whatever I could about starting my business. Then the path shifted once again when my mother’s health plummeted and I became her caregiver until she passed in September 2014. Since then, I’ve been able to interweave my passion of being of service to others, traveling, and holding space for Reiki practitioners in a variety of ways.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Paty ‘Mariposa’ Hernandez, a Trauma-Informed Reiki Mentor and Spiritual Coach, and the founder of Mariposas Holistic Healing — a space where compassionate therapists, coaches, Reiki practitioners, and others can reclaim their power, reignite their passion, and build soul-aligned practices that transform lives. After my sister and mother passed from cancer, I continued searching for something deeper. As an entrepreneur I constantly sought ways to enhance my offerings as a therapist and energy healer yet sometimes I would hit a wall whenever I diverted from my path which left me— burnt out, overwhelmed, and quietly longing for something deeper. Whenever I returned to my Reiki practice and integrated it into my life and practice, I realized the double impact as it helped me in my healing process and my clients.

Today, I help other therapists, Reiki practitioners, and other compassionate healers do the same. I teach and remind them how to ethically and confidently integrate Reiki into their trauma-informed practices, overcome fears of judgment, and grow thriving businesses rooted in authenticity and impact. What makes our work unique is that it’s not just about adding a modality — it’s about transforming the healer’s entire relationship to their work, their worth, and their purpose. We’re creating a movement of heart-centered practitioners who are reshaping what healing looks like — for themselves and for the communities they serve.”**

I’m currently in the process of launching a 21-day virtual program for Reiki practitioners who have lost touch with their Reiki practice so they can reconnect to the loving energy in a sacred container with other practitioners. I’m also planning a few retreats this fall in a variety of locations that offer in person opportunities for people to connect.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What I have seen in my practice and even personal life that breaks bonds is often unacknowledged pain — trauma, shame, fear, and the survival patterns we carry from our wounds. This ties into the stories we tell ourselves to keep us from continuing to experience what we think may be painful. When we feel that we’re not safe within ourselves, it’s hard to feel safe with others. We disconnect to protect our hearts. We withhold to survive. We judge to feel in control. And over time, these protective walls become barriers to the very connection we long for.

What restores those bonds is presence. Empathy. The courageous act of being seen in our vulnerability and offering that same grace to others. In my work with therapists and healers, I’ve seen time and again how healing our nervous systems, reclaiming our intuition, and aligning with our truth creates the safety required for deep, authentic connection. When we honor each other’s humanity — the messy, the tender, the sacred — we begin to heal. And in that healing, bonds not only mend — they deepen.

Another way to restore these bonds, especially within ourselves, is through self-compassion. Releasing judgement of where we are in our lives and focusing on curiosity of what we can do to move one step at a time.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
These thoughts come and go numerous times. Just recently this thought came up when I was feeling stuck in what direction did I want to move into. I received a notification about a possible job opportunity and I thought perhaps that’s the way to go. I could have stability, a steady paycheck, direction, and would work with others instead of feeling so isolated. Then, I received an email asking for my support and guidance. I know that it was important to continue with this path I’ve chosen as a business owner and finding ways to connect with others so I feel supported not depleted.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
For a few years I’ve been sitting on the fence about launching my 21 day virtual program for Reiki practitioners. I had launched it in the past with my best friend and it went well. However, we both moved on and focused on other activities. This idea continued to nag me. I then created a 1 day in person retreat for Reiki practitioners which went well and it reminded me of the need for this program. So, now I’m in the process of creating the program which will launch July 1st and begin August 4th. I hope to launch this program at least twice a year to continue helping other Reiki practitioners reconnect to their practice and their spirituality. This in turn will increase their confidence so they can share with others. I’ve hired help to create this program through a platform that keeps everything connected. I’ve also announced, ready or not, that it’ll launch July 1st. This holds me accountable to the promise I made to myself.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace when I’m in nature. I love camping, kayaking, and simply walking in the woods. I can become lost in the energy of the nature and feel the connection all around me. Whenever I feel the most dysregulated, I make it a point to spend a few hours walking outside, sitting on the ground, or even kayaking where I’m gliding across the water. Inner peace is very important to me, especially with the nature of my work and being of service to others. Nature helps me to replenish my energetic cup so I feel at ease again. This in turn returns my motivation as I feel reconnected with Spirit and my inner wisdom.
