Adequate rest, staying focused and never being consumed by what anyone says or does would be my short/simple answer. Taking the necessary time for self-care and executing the journey to new goals has been eye-opening; being reliable and dependable with not only myself, but with what/who I choose to involve myself in. Extending too many services for the wrong people or reasons can lead to burnout. I try to stay focused and goal-oriented by keeping to myself and finding new hobbies if feeling stuck! Read More>>

I always make sure that I never allow my art to become a job. That’s why I stopped showing in galleries, once something sells it needs to be replaced. I can’t produce art on demand, it doesn’t work that way for me, I have to feel it. Sometimes, I may not feel like painting for months, then I may hit a creative streak where I paint daily. I keep it alive by letting it come to me naturally, free from any corporate pressure. Free from depending on art sales to make my living. Read More>>

I work on custom orders so usually my clients ask for designs that have been previously made and they found browsing on Internet. Sometimes they are very specific about designs and want that their order to look exactly the same as the pictures they sent or, on the other hand, they trust my creativity and just ask for some details or a color scheme to follow. Ceramics isn’t something I am working on constantly. It’s quite often that I lose a bit of creativity, so I take breaks often and go back when I’m feeling inspired. Most of my pieces are practical, every day items. I like to picture them in peoples homes; imagining cozy mornings, slow conversations, and the way a piece is going to fit into their hands. I want to make sure something they take home is something I would want in my own home. It’s about making products that I’m really proud of as well. A lot of my creativity and inspiration comes from that. Read More>>

Simply by always being creative. Something that is still alive is something that is still present. A teacher of mind once told our class to do one thing every day for our art. Big or small. Acting related or not. So, I bought a red pocket-size journal and every day I document one thing. I find that I ask myself each morning,“What am I going to do today to write in my journal?” Keeping creativity alive can be difficult because it is a choice. Your choice. No one is holding you accountable, so you have to hold you accountable. That’s one way I do so. Read More>>

I think the secret to keeping my creativity alive is allowing language to fail my expression. In those moments I’m forced into looking deeper than the surface to find words. While I do have a deep love for words and writing I also believe that creativity is more than structuring your self expression into a neat pile of letters. It’s mostly feeling for me, feeling without labeling and creating without analyzing. Creativity is the core of who someone is so I don’t think there’s really a way to lose it – just a way to ignore it. In a practical way of finding inspiration to drive my creativity forward to action I almost always turn to nature! Read More>>

This is such a great question. As an author and creator of entertaining fiction stories, creativity is a must! One way I keep that valve open and flowing is by maintaining my physical health and mental well-being. When your body doesn’t feel well, it’s hard to get into the creative mode. By the same token, if you are sad or feeling blue, it’s difficult to be creative. So to me, through a healthy diet and gentle exercise such as Qigong, I am able to keep the creative outlet open to receive. That may sound strange, but ideas for stories, scenes for characters, and even dialogue can come from out of the blue. The key is to be open to them and take action! Read More>>

Shawn: I like to think I keep it alive by always being aware in my day to day.. be it just looking at a great tree or a small root growing on some sidewalk I happen to be walking down. I see a lot of things, and have seen a lot of beautiful places and faces and been on hard times and I’m always singing some show tune in my head..
And on the other hand I think creativity is always there.. It’s pure energy. Read More>>

I get in hermit mode and like to process my emotions first. It helps me find inspiration and express whatever I’m going through mentally. I have times where I get writers block and I feel like I have to force songs. Those songs end up going into archives and get used to exercise my creative muscle instead of being released. Read More>>

First thing first! If you don’t feel creative, don’t force it!! Its always in there somewhere, but you just cant force it. Stress doesn’t work well with me when it comes to being creative.
How I do it is pretty simple because I have always been like this. I am very curious and like to feel and touch. Leaves, stones, fabrics, screws, different textures. I like to touch and let my mind fly freely. I always want to feel what im looking at. That triggers my mind and I get small independent ideas that might be possible to combine to something in the future. Read More>>

Creativity is a simple flow of a thousand ideas running through my head on a daily basis. HA! I wish it was that simple. Creativity for me is my mind racing, scouring through Pinterest, YouTube, websites, magazines, and just about everywhere I look. Here is an example; I will buy a wooden dough bowl, then look around the house to find the items to fill it in order to take a picture with our products. Everyday you have to have some sort of creative outlet. Another easy way I keep creativity at the forefront is – having about six projects going at one time. I jump around to projects until they are all done. Sometimes you can get anther idea for a different project and so, you leave that project to go to the other one……you follow me? HAHA! Read More>>

I think creativity often comes from how we perceive the world around us as well as some of our own personal experiences. And by personal experiences, I also mean even the people that are in our lives on a day-to-day basis. For me, creativity comes from all of the various things that I have personally gone through when it comes to building my career or family dynamics or even experiences related to my own physical being. It also helps me greatly to be married to a creative person who oftentimes challenges my analytical side and allows me to explore things that are more abstract and not always black and white. Being a creative in the space of photography/videography is very tough. We are constantly overanalyzing our work, second-guessing our pricing, and thinking what we can do better. When I was first starting in this field, I would spend way too much time comparing myself to others as opposed to bettering my work. I now focus on making my next video shoot better than the last. Forever learning from my mistakes and utilizing those experiences to make me a better videographer and business owner. Read More>>

Keeping your creativity alive is so important! Creative inspiration is gifted to those who are willing to act on it. There are a few ways that I keep my creativity alive other than meditation, exercising, listening to music and journaling. I also collaborate, refresh and unplug. For my collaborative route, I typically reach out to local models to be makeup muses. This gives me the opportunity and creative freedom to do any makeup look that I’ve been wanting to try. Not only is it a way for me to test out techniques that I may or may not implement into my current makeup routine but it’s also a great way to network. I’ve met a lot of amazing people doing that. As a floral designer, you are constantly having to tap into your creative side and sometimes it can become a bit draining. I have learned from other florists that setting aside time to create without the pressure of a deadline or having an order that needs to be fulfilled, can help keep that creativity alive. I make sure to set “alone time” for myself and “play” with flowers, rather than work with them. You have to remind yourself that this didn’t start off as a job, but a love of an art. Read More>>

Creativity lives within and all around me but if my focus is moved I lose sight of my creativity or joy that comes from creating. Wether that be through knowledge of things around me, interactions with others, enjoying and understanding fellow creators work. When I’m able to sit still long enough in a silent environment I’m able to hear what I need in order to create. My creative ability comes from the most high. Silence and meditation is a highly effective way to hear those things. I say stress management because creating is my therapy and the best way for me to rid myself of stress. It prompts me to seek inspiration from reading, music, and other things that spark my creativity. Stress is natural, and I’ve created many things while relieving stress. Read More>>

Great question and such an important factor in this career. There are a few things that I do to nourish my creativity. First is by setting aside time to create for myself versus for a client. These are fun days when I can do whatever I like, whether it’s try out a new idea, practice a new skill, or just play around in the studio. Secondly, I love to follow photographers and creators in different fields on Social Media. It’s a great way to see different styles or techniques and spark inspiration.
