There is thankfully a growing realization that effectiveness and self-care are linked and that investing in self-care can be massively improve productivity.

For self-care I look to spirituality, I’m a passionate crystal healer and colour therapist. I put these practises into my day to day routine as much as I can, as well as meditation. I feel connected and grounded this way, I enjoy these practises as well as a couple rituals I like to partake in. Since I started exploring colour therapy in March of 2022, I’ve found a beautiful healing energy in being able to read myself and other peoples essences/their auras. I love getting lost in a good book too, disconnecting from the tech in the world and just escaping. Recently I’ve been enjoying the Court Of Thorns And Roses series by Sarah J. Maas and the twisted fairy tales that Emily McIntire creates through her Never After series. Read more>>

As a natural born perfectionist and people-pleaser, I would often take on more than I can handle. That would result in burnout, which would then lead to me to believe I was either not doing my best work, letting people down, or both. I would become more anxious and increasingly frustrated with myself for not being able to do it all. It was a long, hard lesson to learn that “no” is a complete sentence, but once I started practicing saying it more often, I found that life became more manageable. Read more>>

I have always struggled with carving out time for myself. I also realize how ironic this sounds as a Licensed Professional Counselor where I encourage my clients to engage in self-care activities and provide psychoeducation around the benefits and importance of self-care. It is always easier said than done. I am working on breaking down the barriers of being a people-pleaser and making a generous effort to prioritize myself. Before becoming a mom of two kids, I did fairly well at engaging in various self-care activities such as: going to the gym, journaling, spending time with friends/family, etc. While being a mom is deeply rewarding, it is also very hard, draining work. Add that to balancing work/life and the hours in the day just become smaller and smaller. It wasn’t until recently that I noticed I was stretching myself too thin, I was trying to do it all and I was becoming very resentful, irritable, and burnt out. Read more>>

Self-care has a profound impact on my life. I follow a morning and evening routine that completely transforms my mindset and energy. In the evenings, I always try to find a few extra minutes for myself. I meditate, do a ‘legs up the wall’ pose to relax, and prepare for the next day. This helps me wind down, reflect, and feel organized. Read more>>

Self-care is something I absolutely *love*! Whether it’s spending the day with my girls, my boyfriend, or my family, there’s always something to look forward to. From rocking matching Christmas PJs with my girls, to exploring NYC with my boyfriend, or catching a show in Atlantic City with family, the last few months of the year are full of amazing memories. But let’s be real, I’m also all about a solo self-care day—nothing beats a Swedish massage! Read more>>

For many years I took my health for granted, spending years taking care of others in my work as a massage therapist and yoga teacher, and for my family. Perimenopause was a critical time in my life where everything changed. I was forced to look at every aspect of my lifestyle and make big changes, bigger than I ever thought possible. Although, by most peoples’ standards, I lived a healthy lifestyle, it was no match for what menopause had in store for me. After going down the rabbit-hole of allopathic medicine, I contacted an ayurvedic practitioner (a type of holistic doctor) to help me understand my symptoms and their root causes. Read more>>

The alarm goes off at 4:30 AM. It’s early, but this is the only time I get just for me. The house is quiet, and for the first hour, I journal and read. Journaling clears my mind. I get everything out on paper so it’s not bouncing around in my head all day. Reading gives me something to think about beyond work or the to-do list. It’s not about being productive; it’s about starting the day with clarity and intention. Read more>>

I have worked in hospice, with terminally ill patients and their families, death care and now with people who are grieving the loss of a loved one for all of my career. My self-care is a combination of self-awareness and mindset, more than anything else. I am intentional about checking in with myself around what I need and keeping things in perspective.
Self-awareness: At different points in time I have needed different types of self-care and check in with myself on a daily basis. To me self-care is a flexible routine, reflection and levity. It is rare that I need time away from work, but a flexible, and changing routine works well for me to be more present and creative in my work. I am also very reflective, allowing myself to hold space and honor the stories and experiences people share. I reflect by running, writing, reading and taking time alone without a schedule to process experiences. Read more>>
