We recently had the chance to connect with Pierre Arseneault and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Pierre, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Like most creative people, I spend my day working a full-time job to make certain that I keep a roof over my head and food on the table. Another thing this does is allows me the freedom to do what I want creatively and not have to please the money behind the business side of the art. That is the upside of not earning a living with your art.
So, to sum it up, my days are filled with going to work, living, and trying to fit some time to work on my passions in between.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Pierre C. Arseneault and I’m both a writer and cartoonist. I’ve published cartoon puzzles and panel humor cartoons in newspapers for twenty years before changing my focus to writing fiction. Since doing so, I’ve written both solo and in collaboration. I’ve written novels and short stories in many genres with plans to expand on this as I go. I’ve got a few irons in the fire as we speak with many projects on the horizon.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I’d have to say, once I realized that those people whom we put on pedestals are simply flawed humans, it changed my perspective on many aspects of life. And while this should allow us to accept our own flaws, what it did for me is make me want to be what I thought those idols were.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
In my early life, I was afraid to fail. Now I’m afraid to go through life without having tried.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That art is done merely for art’s sake. Sadly art is mostly about business.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
Most likely, the thing I will be most remembered for will be something that was totally out of my control. Stay tuned…
