Rachael Kennedy of Los Angeles on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Rachael Kennedy. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Rachael, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
My sobriety <3. I’ve been sober 3.5 years now and it was the best thing I’ve done for myself. It has given me the gift of knowing myself so much more deeply and the ability to show up for everyone in my life in a more authentic way as the best version of myself.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
KENNEDY is a 5’10 slightly lanky Canadian Grammy award winning songwriter and producer born in Toronto now living in Los Angeles. After 10 years of writing and producing for other artists (Britney spears, Chris Brown, Calvin Harris, Charlie Puth, Bebe Rexha, Dixie D’Amelio, Benny Benassi) with her production team, LIONCHLD, KENNEDY has started releasing her own music into the internet wild. Though in its beginning stages, KENNEDY’s first couple of singles have found their way onto Spotify editorial playlists like Fresh Finds, Fresh Finds Pop, Noteable, Anti Pop, and Fresh Finds Canada. She just released her 4th single “All the Pretty Girls” and will be performing at the Viper Room on Oct 9, 2025. Her song “Beautiful Broken Unusual” was featured in the just theatrically released coming-of-age drama/comedy, “POOLS”, starring Odessa A’zion (Marty Supreme) and Ariel Winter (Modern Family), and will be released as a single in the next month. She also spent 2024 composing the theme song and scoring the entire 26-episode Nickelodeon series, “Wylde Pak” with LIONCHLD which is now airing on Nickelodeon.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That I was responsible for regulating everyone’s emotions around me before mine. That I was not allowed to make mistakes and my value as a person was directly correlated to how talented and successful I am.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
During the pandemic I lost my fiancé, my dad came out as trans and my parents got divorced, I got sober, and lost my mom to a 5 week battle with lung cancer one year after that. It was so much grief and loss and change so quickly, I think it taught me very quickly how to surrender to things I can’t control, which was actually very liberating. The saying “pain is the touchstone of growth” could not be more true for me. I was sort of forced to level up as a person and lean into what I can control which is how I show up as a human being in the world. I feel like all the suffering has shown me what really matters and really gave me the final push I needed to stop being afraid of being an artist and start releasing my own music and allow myself to be vulnerable and authentic. I also won a Grammy in 2023, and while I’m so grateful for that, I saw that it didn’t change my mental state. It didn’t change my level of peace and serenity, and that was a very important lesson.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Living a fun and full life outside of work. Being a good person, living as authentically as possible, and always leading with an open heart <3

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I contributed as much love and light to the tiny sliver of time I got here on this planet. That I loved deeply and openly and I left people better than I found them <3
