We recently had the chance to connect with Rebecca Babcock and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day are all about grounding myself before I step into the work of supporting others. I start with a few quiet minutes of meditation to get centered, then I take my dog out for a walk—which is as much for me as it is for him. Being outside helps me clear my head and notice what kind of energy I’m bringing into the day. Some mornings also include an AA meeting, which has been an important touchstone in my life and continues to remind me to approach each day with humility and presence. By the time I sit down to work, I feel aligned, steady, and ready to meet whatever comes my way.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Rebecca Babcock, founder of The Babcock Method™ — a no-BS coaching approach for people who are outwardly successful but secretly stuck. My clients are high-achievers, leaders, and creatives who look like they “have it all,” but underneath they’re wrestling with burnout, self-doubt, or the quiet fear that they’re living someone else’s definition of success. I help them cut through the noise, reclaim their energy, and create lives and careers that actually feel good.
What sets me apart is simple: I tell the truth. Coaching with me is not about platitudes or sugarcoating. I’ve lived through chronic illness, divorce, sobriety, and multiple career reinventions — and the only thing that ever moved me forward was being radically honest with myself. That’s the standard I hold for my clients too: truth-telling as the gateway to freedom.
At the heart of my brand is the belief that you’re not broken, you’re just layered. My role is to help you peel back the layers of fear, shame, and old stories so you can finally step into clarity and confidence. Coaching with me isn’t about fixing you — it’s about freeing you. And the freedom begins the moment you’re willing to tell the truth.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful wasn’t about being the loudest or the strongest — it was about finding my voice. As a kid, I learned quickly how to read a room and say what people wanted to hear. But there was a moment — I must have been around 10 or 11 — when I told the truth about something everyone else was avoiding. I remember the rush that came with it: the mix of fear and freedom, and the sense that honesty could cut through all the noise.
That moment planted a seed for the work I do now. Power, to me, has never been about control or dominance — it’s about courage. It’s the courage to say what’s real, even when it’s uncomfortable, and to stand in that truth without apology. That’s still the through-line of my life and my coaching: truth-telling as a way to unlock freedom, connection, and forward momentum.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. The moment that comes to mind is when I had emergency surgery to remove my colon in my early thirties. I had been living with ulcerative colitis for years, but nothing prepares you for waking up to find your body permanently changed. I remember lying in the hospital bed, weak and scared, wondering how I could possibly rebuild a life from there.
But here’s the truth: that moment also cracked me open. It forced me to let go of perfectionism, stop pretending I had it all together, and face my reality with honesty. That crisis became a turning point — not because I suddenly felt strong, but because I realized survival wasn’t about pushing harder, it was about surrendering to what was real.
That’s when I learned resilience isn’t about never breaking. It’s about breaking open — and then telling the truth about it. That experience continues to shape my coaching today. I know what it feels like to want to give up, and I also know the power of choosing, again and again, not to.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes — sometimes uncomfortably so. I built my brand around telling the truth because I spent too many years hiding behind what I thought people wanted me to be. Today, what you see publicly is pretty much what you’d get if you were sitting across the table from me: direct, sometimes intense, but always rooted in honesty and care.
That doesn’t mean I share every detail of my life with the world — boundaries are important — but it does mean I refuse to perform a version of myself that isn’t real. The biggest compliment I get from clients and friends alike is, “You’re the same everywhere.” To me, that’s integrity. And that’s freedom.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop wasting energy trying to prove myself to anyone. For much of my life, I chased approval — in jobs, relationships, even my own family — and it nearly broke me. Facing chronic illness and surviving emergency surgery taught me how fragile life really is. If I knew I had only 10 years left, I’d double down on living in alignment, telling the truth, and pouring my energy into the people and projects that matter most.
At this stage of my life and career, I don’t want to burn out performing for the world. I want to burn bright for the things that actually light me up: helping people reclaim their lives, writing my book, building my coaching legacy, and showing up fully for the people I love. That’s the filter I try to live by now — but with a 10-year clock on it, there’d be no room left for anything else.
