robert clarke of City on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to robert clarke. Check out our conversation below.

robert, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I wake up
Make tea
Do
NY times
connections
Mini crossword
Duo lingo Spanish
7 mins work out
Light weights
Then coffee
Then dog walk
That’s all around 90 mins

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I paint dogs
Which is to say I am commissioned by dog owners to paint or draw their pets on a canvas or paper as a gift ,a momento or in a lot of cases posthumously as a reminder of their lives .
I have been doing this for 20’years
It has a purpose and definitely helps the client to come to terms with their pets passing.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was always thinking ,always asking myself but I pottered along I painted ,I wrote ,I drew but like many things you have to commit …I think that’s the hardest thing to do …Just actual do the work ,then you can see what happens later ..
You can’t 2nd guess your future

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
The strange thing about this question is that I’d be happy to talk to myself and give no help or guidance as I truly believe you’re on a path and you are the sum of the parts of that path…just be happy to work find good people and friends and try to be optimistic

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yep totally ,I am noisy ,abrupt , outspoken and try to be kind

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I would never retire ….I think as an artist of any kind you must produce ,always …Picasso,Matisse all the great Artists painted til they dropped
