Robert Morrison of The Chicagoland Area on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Robert Morrison and have shared our conversation below.

Robert, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I am walking on a path of greatness, and walking in my purpose.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi my name is, Rob Diggy Morrison, a Grammy Award-winning arranger and film/television composer. My work has taken me from the studio with legends like Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, and Michael Jackson to composing scores for hit television shows and films streaming worldwide. Currently, I’m the chief composer for Carl Weber’s The Family Business on BET, now in its sixth season, and I continue to create music that connects deeply with audiences. And a lot of people don’t know is that from time to time I teach middle school as a Substitute Teacher, its rewarding to see the youth excel.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Bonds, in my opinion are strong tough as steel, and sometimes can be broken by miscommunication, resentment, trust, and unspoken assumptions. Now what can restore a great bond is, trust, communication, time, and a willingness to grow and add value to each other.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Oh, I would probably say, “whatever you do never give up”, and never be selfish.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
“I believe there is something deep in the oceans that has not yet been uncovered. The sea holds mysteries beyond our reach—creatures, truths, and worlds hidden in its depths that science has yet to reveal. I can’t prove it, but I feel certain it’s there”.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I was a great storyteller, all around funny guy, was a great musician, and shared many laughs with my mother Joanne.
