Robin Garrett on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Robin Garrett. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Robin, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I would hire Me in a heartbeat! Timely, organized, efficient, forward-thinking, methodical, analytical……. YET personable, extremely creative, relaxed and magnetic personality, casual to be around with a penchant for helping others solve a problem.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
For the past 14 years, I have owned and operated a very unique Home and Garden store in Denison, Texas called Oopsy Daisy. It is a passion project of mine where years and years of different jobs/skillsets join with my lifelong loves of gardening, interior and exterior design, shopping, and creating a personal space that is relaxed, inviting and most importantly, not something you would see anywhere else. Our look is ever-evolving as seasons and inventory are changing but our feel remains the same ~ a vibe of genuine authenticity and creative surroundings to inspire customers to soak it all in while they are here, but the confidence to repeat the same feel in their own homes.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Two hugely important women in my life left such impact with only one line each:

When weighing the hard decision to even start this business, my Bestie simply asked, “But if you don’t, won’t you always wonder?’

And once up and running several years, I called my Sister nervous about a new competitor. She replied, “It’ll never be competition ~ they’re not you!”

It’s amazing what sticks with you and gets you through some days, just from casual conversation sometimes. A good lesson that none of us realize the gravity our words possess.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would remind younger me that it’s not always easy but it is the grind and repetition that builds the muscle. While I would prefer to never have a reason to have to be resilient, I often remind myself that the hard work usually always pays off and things work out.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes and no. My personality and character are the same, but when I am off work I am much more of an introvert. I select my close friends carefully and honor those relationships and keeping my circle small suits me just fine.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I think the culmination of all my interests and all my former careers into this one big beautiful business is all the proof necessary to see this is what I was born to do!
