We’re looking forward to introducing you to Ronny Martin. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Ronny, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have you stood up for someone when it cost you something?
Yeah, in a way, I have. Creating my comic and superhero “All-Star” and telling stories that reflect the struggles and victories of my community has come with its share of criticism. Some people think I’m just trying to stir the pot, but what I’m really trying to do is shine a light on real issues — not just for my community but for others, too. Heroes should inspire hope and spark change, and that’s what I want All-Star to stand for, even if it costs me support from people who don’t want to have those conversations.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Ronald Martin Jr., aka Ronny Creates the founder of Radical Komics, and the artist and writer behind my original character the “Unbreakable All-Star “ comics. Through Radical Komics, I create bold, inclusive, and dynamic superhero tales that blend action, fantasy, and real-world issues. My goal is to build heroes that inspire hope, spark conversations, and represent communities often overlooked in mainstream comics.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I think as a kid who loved creating art I always had this innate sense of power about myself. I watched comic book heroes on cartoons and wanted to be them. Then I began to draw and create them. I started to get noticed by people who otherwise would have walked passed and ignored me and then I knew as a kid the power of being an artist/creative. The bigger the projects I did as I gotten older made me feel even more powerful because I knew I was the one to do it the way that it needed to be done and created..I’ve had that feeling of power and importance since I was a child drawing in class.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I’ve thought about giving up several times, but I knew that quitting and living with that regret would be worse than the grueling journey of getting there. So I surrendered to the process. I stopped worrying about how long it would take and focused on the fact that as long as I’m alive, my story will get out. The moment I let go of the time frame and just committed to the work, my first comic was finally born after three years of dedication
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Publishers often claim that readers only want familiar characters like Batman, Spider-Man, or X-Men, but the truth is people crave good stories — and when original concepts are marketed well, they blow up. Look at Invincible, Saga, or even The Boys.
Another one is that diversity doesn’t sell this is one of the most damaging lies. Companies sometimes say characters of color, queer heroes, or culturally specific stories won’t make money. But when done authentically like Miles Morales, Ms. Marvel, or Static Shock they thrive and create whole new fanbases.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
At my core, I am a creator and a fighter — someone driven by a deep need to tell stories that matter, even if only a handful of people ever hear them. I’m a storyteller who turns pain, hope, and truth into art, and a builder who isn’t just crafting characters but entire worlds and legacies. I confront reality rather than escape it, weaving real struggles like racial injustice, loss, and identity into bold, fantastical narratives. I’m a visionary, often ahead of where the industry wants to be, creating inclusive and layered stories long before the mainstream fully catches up. I’m also a protector — of my ideas, my community, and the people I love — with the same energy I pour into my heroes, standing up for what’s right even when it costs me. At my core, I create because I have to; it’s how I breathe, how I make sense of the world, and how I ensure that what I leave behind will always be bigger than myself.
