Samantha Simone shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Who are you learning from right now?
Honestly, my students. I love teaching so much because there will be days where I learn from them too! I am always inspired by my students and reminded that anything is possible because of the energy, passion, and enthusiasm I watch them all perform with. They challenge me to not only be a better teacher, but a better artist every day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi Readers! I’m Samantha Simone – a NJ based Actor, Professor, Producer, WIFE and Dog Mom. I have worked extremely hard to make sure my life centers around joy and the arts and I can successfully say that I have done that. Acting wise, I am mostly an on camera performer, but am classically trained and have been itching to get back on an actual stage and do a play again. I teach acting for the camera and the business of acting to college students across the state of NJ. When I am not performing or teaching performance you can find me at the gym, with my husband and our 5 year old dog Ned. Currently I am working on a few projects of my own, or passion projects, to stay focused and try new things in the industry. Something interesting about me is I love learning and trying new things – I love being pushed out of my comfort zone to explore something new.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
This one is easy – my grandfather. My grandfather was a professional musician, teacher, and loving father and husband. As soon as I discovered the arts were my path in life too, my grandfather became my north star in guiding my decisions. I wanted a life just like his – balanced – full of love for my job, passion for my craft, and being surrounded with the love of a family. He made sacrifices, sure, but who doesn’t? He taught me to trust myself, and trust that I am talented. He taught me not to take myself too seriously and things will fall in to place when they are supposed to. Watching him teach, he taught me how to be the educator I am today. Listening to him play the piano and sing, taught me to be the artist I am today. He has shaped the woman I am today in more ways then just work – but work was a shared language we had.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Literally every other day. Being an artist and free lancer is not easy by any means. But when I feel like I want to give up I am usually given a sign by the universe that I am on the right path. Very recently I was feeling down on myself for not booking a role in a long time…then out of the blue an audition came in that led to a booking! The universe has a way of telling you that you are on the right path 🙂
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely – I am the same person I am alone with my dog, that I am to the real world. I have very little filter, am honest, and tell people how I feel about things. I am direct without hurting people’s feelings, and pride myself on being authentic at all times. There is more energy spent and wasted trying to be someone I am not, versus embracing, loving, and showing the world exactly who I am. I used to be a people pleaser and then I turned 30 – and no longer cared what anyone thought! Now the person who’s happiness matters to me most, is my own. As an actor I get to pretend to be other people for a living, that why not be myself when I can 🙂
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
At the gym. The gym is my church. It’s the one place I get to go to for me and me only. I show up for myself and put in the work to improve, not for vanity, but to become the strongest version of myself mentally and physically that I can be. The gym is also the best community of people who are so supportive and positive. I could be having the worst day – go to class at Alpha Fit Club – and come out in a completely better mood because of the 1 hour I got to spend in my happy place.
