Sammy T of Knoxville, TN on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sammy T. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Sammy, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What battle are you avoiding?
Allowing hate to dictate my actions. I think we all do it to some degree, whether with small moments of technological incompetence, to our favorite sports teams losing, to indifferences we may have with one another. Learning how to react in a calmer / neutral way is the key to holding on to our inner peace.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
The name is Sam Travis, and I am the frontman of a newly formed original band project – Sammy T and the Sunny D. Our main focus is to uplift through the power of music by sending a positive message. We mix a few genres, but our favorites are Funk, Reggae, Soul & Jam, with some added Americana / Folk vibes.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I would say in simplest terms hate, and respectively love – or unacceptance / acceptance. That’s why I think it’s so important for everyone to find connection in some way, because I guarantee you we all have more in common, than we do uncommon… sadly, the narrative is the latter more so than not. The more we focus on what brings us together, the less our differences seem to matter.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
It taught me that life still goes on, even when it has felt like my whole world is shattered.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
That everyone should have the right to safely express themselves and live their lives how they see fit, so long as it does not physically harm others.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
Playing music, being in nature or meditating.
