Shameka Green shared her story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Shameka, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What battle are you avoiding?
The battle to surrender and relinquish control. My life trajectory changed majorly about 2 years ago. I thought….let me say that again…I thought I knew the detailed path for my life.
Now, my life looks totally different. I’m navigating a “new world”. My personal journey has shown me that God is the author of my story. Although I had plans, his plans were way bigger than mine. There is hope after devastation. The major life changes were designed to help me elevate and equip me with the tools to handle bigger challenges. I’m actually where I am supposed to be. I’m embracing this new, yet beautiful version of me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Shameka Green. I basically teach people…women specifically how to love themselves and hope again.
As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with my own private practice, I have the ability to “see” people. I can see beyond behaviors and patterns. I’m able to identify the pain and help people navigate through their journey.
As an International Best-Selling Author, I have written and published thirteen books. I’m an ambassador for people with trauma.
I’ve utilized my media company, “Beauty From Ashes Media,” as a platform to help elevate the voices of others.
You can find joy and be unapologetic about it.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Somewhere, I started believing the lies. You start to float between am I doing too much or am I enough.
I always hid myself from the world because of those lies. I was afraid of things like public speaking and using my voice.
I am more than enough. I am highly qualified and equipped to do God’s mission.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
My wounds were impacted by deep trauma. I have a strong dislike for trauma.
You never know who you really were before the trauma happened.
You love with fear or overthink too much. It’s a place of pain and most of your decisions are based off protection. You see things through a survival lens.
Most of my friends see me as a light. I wonder if it’s because I know darkness.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
My new DocuSeries details the ins and outs of trauma. I have been actively shooting a few scenes through “Beauty From Ashes Media”. You will start to see the lives of others through a different lens. Guests are allowed to talk freely about their trauma journey.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Loudly! I enjoy seeing people believe and hope again. People who believed trauma was going to rob them of their joy forever.
I’m a certified hope dealer in my opinion. I’m excited for my “NEXT”.
