We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sil Azevedo. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Sil, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I wake up, make a fresh pour over cup of coffee and go to the loft window to look at the city and reflect. My view includes Reunion Tower, the Omni (often with creative neon motifs), and the Red Pegasus, which reminds me that we are meant to fly. It’s usually still dark when I get up early in the morning. I then journal to process the day before and get my attitude right for the day ahead. It’s a very reflective time.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a filmmaker coming from a stills photography background. I am currently working on a feature documentary project titled “I am for Peace,” scheduled to release in the spring of 2026. This project has taken me around the US and Asia. Along the way I have met inspiring people who are doing the work of peace building every day.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Nine years ago, after a home fire, my wife and I decided to take a “reset trip” around the world. That journey changed everything for me. Traveling across continents, cultures, and languages, I saw firsthand how deeply interconnected we all are. Everywhere we went, the pattern was unmistakable: regardless of background, the overwhelming majority of people simply want to live in peace, care for their loved ones, and connect with one another.
That realization reshaped the way I see the world. It stayed with me, grew in me, and ultimately led to the creation of the documentary we’re producing today, I Am For Peace. The film is an extension of that awakening—a way to share the simple but profound truth that humanity has far more in common than what divides us.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Enjoy the journey. It will all come together beautifully. Always choose the path of growth.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I’ve always admired people whose strength comes from character rather than power. Peacemakers inspire me—Gandhi, Mandela, Dr. King, Malala, Wangari Maathai, Wally and Juanita Nelson. These are people of deep conviction who weren’t afraid to “go for it,” to show up every day and do the real, often unglamorous work of peace-building. They remind us that courage can be gentle, and that decisive action can come from a place of compassion.
Working on I Am For Peace has only expanded that admiration. I’ve been fortunate to meet remarkable individuals—activists, educators, humanitarians—who dedicate their lives to making the world a better, safer, more connected place. Their voices and their wisdom have become a guiding light for the film, and I’m honored to share their insights with a wider audience.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
For me, personal growth comes from leaning into the unknown. I like being out of my depth—it’s often where the most interesting things happen. When I feel that mix of curiosity and discomfort, that’s usually my signal that I’m in a space where I can grow, learn, and evolve. Instead of pulling back, I try to stay present, ask good questions, and trust the process. That’s where transformation begins and destiny manifests.
