Sir Woods on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sir Woods. Check out our conversation below.

Sir, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I believe I’m being called to stand up for those who are marginalized, To be a voice for people whose stories are often drowned out by the noise of the world. We’re using the platforms we’ve built at SWC to amplify those smaller voices, because just because they’re smaller doesn’t make their message any less important.

There was a time when I might have shied away from this. When the fear of being judged, misunderstood, or even targeted would have kept me quiet. But now, I feel a responsibility that outweighs that fear. I know what it feels like to be overlooked, doubted, or dismissed, and I refuse to let that happen to others if I can help it. My calling now is to use every resource, connection, and opportunity I have to make sure these voices are heard, respected, and given the space they deserve to create change.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Sir Woods, founder of SWC, a digital advertising AI platform serving clients across the DMV and around the world. We specialize in combining cutting-edge technology with creative strategy to deliver marketing campaigns that not only look great but also drive measurable results.

Our work has supported organizations like Nationwide, Johns Hopkins University, and the Global Coalition on Aging — as well as impactful community and cultural events. What makes SWC unique is our ability to use AI to streamline ad targeting, optimize campaigns in real time, and deliver content that resonates deeply with each audience.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was the quiet kid in the background. Shy, awkward, afraid, and barely able to string two words together in a conversation. I can still remember the feeling of my peers and guidance counselors looking at me with doubt, letting me know they didn’t expect much for my future. College? A successful career? That wasn’t the story they imagined for me.

But that doubt lit a fire. It made me determined to prove that my voice mattered, even if I had to work ten times as hard to find it. Over the years, I pushed myself into uncomfortable situations, learned to lead, and built relationships that once felt impossible. Every project, every client, and every success I’ve had since is rooted in that early drive to rewrite the narrative others had written for me.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The defining wound of my life is burned into me, literally. I can still feel the heat, like fire on my skin, from the humiliation of being that shy, awkward kid who barely spoke two words. I wasn’t just quiet, I was invisible. My peers laughed at me, and my guidance counselors didn’t believe I’d make it far in college, let alone life.

That doubt cut deep. It stripped me of confidence before I even had a chance to build it. But it also lit something in me. A relentless, almost desperate drive to prove them wrong. I worked like my life depended on it, because in my mind, it did.

I’ve never “healed” in the way people think healing works. The scar is still there. I carry it every day. But instead of letting it define my limits, I’ve turned it into the fuel that powers me. Every room I walk into, every win I get, every time I speak up it’s me telling that younger version of myself: We made it. And we’re never going back.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I believe in fighting for equitable solutions for minorities in this country, and I’m not blind to the reality that those rights we once thought were secure are being chipped away by the new administration. This isn’t abstract for me; it’s personal. I’ve lived the reality of being underestimated because of who I am and where I come from.

That’s why I’ve made it one of my missions to keep empowering people who look like me. Sometimes that’s through my companies, creating opportunities where others might slam the door. Sometimes it’s by mentoring the next generation, showing them what’s possible when the world tells them otherwise. And sometimes it’s simply by living in a way that makes me a role model, not because I’m perfect, but because I’m proof that we can rise, build, and lead.

No matter how long it takes, I’m committed to making sure that the spaces I occupy are more open, more fair, and more empowering for those coming after me than they were when I found them.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I truly believe I’m living my purpose. Every day, I get to use my God-given abilities to help people in the best way I know how. By creating solutions that open doors, remove barriers, and spark growth for others. This isn’t about chasing someone else’s blueprint for my life or living up to what I was told to do. It’s about walking in the path God put in front of me.

Starting SWC has given me the opportunity to positively impact my own family by creating meaningful opportunities for them, build bridges at my alma mater by supporting initiatives that matter, and even extend that impact globally. Through our initiatives in Africa, we’ve been able to give individuals and communities the tools and resources to achieve better life outcomes. Something that continues to fuel my passion and remind me why I do this work.

Right now, we’re not just helping the people in our immediate reach, we’re scaling those solutions so we can serve more individuals across the world who need them. To me, that’s the work I was born to do, and I’m committed to doing it for as long as I have breath in my body.
