My resilience is rooted in a deeply personal journey through adversity, starting from a very young age. At the tender age of 5, I began to grapple with anxiety, and by the time I was 10, a traumatic event left me with PTSD. Read More>>

I’d say it ultimately comes from two places: My mother, and the fact that I grew up in a small town in Kansas. My mother was adopted at a very young age from the Apsaalooke reservation. She grew up as a Native American woman in the seventies, in a town that was less than two-thousand people. She never used these words to describe it, but it was a city in which she was very out of place, and everyone let her know. Read More>>

My resilience is a fusion of personality, upbringing, and life experiences. Both my Sensei and my father taught me that as men responsible for ourselves and those around us, giving up is not an option. This life lesson complements my natural stubbornness—I don’t back down until I either black out or complete the task at hand. Read More>>

In my life, one thing I learned is that things don’t always come easy but with resilience you can come out on top. As a child, I was raised by strong independent black women— my mother, grandmother and aunts. The challenges they faced to bring up their families never stopped their determination, attitude or spirit. No matter what challenges they faced, they always kept moving forward, adapted and did it through an optimistic point-of-view. They taught me no matter what you face, you can get through any obstacle with faith and hard work. I don’t dwell on the troubles I’ve been through but of course moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment industry wasn’t an easy feat. I remember my first year in LA it felt like everything was going wrong. I couldn’t work because I was in a demanding schedule at film school, my car’s engine went out and I was doubting if this industry was for me. But won’t He do it! I couldn’t give up— I learned how to take the bus for the first time in my life and everyone knows the public transportation in LA can use some work but I managed. I found a way to squeeze multiple jobs into my schedule — I worked at American Eagle and did brand ambassador work for multiple brands at events for Naked Juice, Toyota, Amazon, etc., audience work at the Steve Harvey show, America’s Got Talent and so many more. When you are met with roadblocks, you got to find another route. Read More>>
