My resilience comes from many years of being a minority in New York City, you’re almost treated like a 3rd class citizen. During that time I had to watch my mom go on welfare collecting food stamps to feed my sister and I. When I was old enough I also got on the food stamp program just to contribute. Lucinda Bruce

I suffered a spinal injury at the age of 26 which I battled with for two years before having to quit my job because I could not work at the same capacity I could before the injury. Shortly after quitting, I was diagnosed with Cancer which took another two years of my life to be cleared from, thankfully, only requiring surgery and no other forms of treatment.
